Default Merged: Transformers: the animated movie thread

I'd say it was about 75% commercial and 25% movie.

    Say you what?

It's definately a movie, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a longtime Transformers fan. It has a soild script and plot, and it could stand on its own just based from that.

Probably. I would agree with that assessment.

Yeah,It's not the best movie ever, but the plot is decent and there some good lines. It also has a good cheese-rock soundtrack. :D

A lot of the characters in the movie didn't even have toys for kids to buy.

Other than the Quintessons and (I can't remember if he had one or not) Unicron, I remember getting toys for all the major (robot) characters in that film.

Unicron didn't get a toy until a couple of years ago, and prototypes before then were horrible.

I just watched it. Now I want to watch the episode(s?) with the Return of Optimus Prime.

I wish we could have a modern Transformers show that reinvisions the G1 creations. It would be so awesome if classic Optimus could come back. The idea is still solid, and with some minor revisions to the way they look to make them more modern Transformers would be a great show. Optimus Prime is one of the greatest role model characters in entertainment history.

I would definitely watch that. Transformers can be an epic series. It's a war between virtually immortal beings. They could've had paradise... and instead have unending war that consumes tham all.

Except for Arcee. I heard a rumor that Nightbeat of the Headmasters line was gonna be her but Hasbro chickened out at the last minute or something.

Oh,it's a movie and a tramatic one at that........at least for me when my dad took me to see it when i was in the 3rd grade. I was a 3rd grader who thought(and still thinks) Prowl was the coolest Transformer ever, and then....BLAM....he gets killed,Brawn,Ironhide,we see the dead body of Wheeljack during the battle,Optimus Prime dies! What the hell!! All the classics getting trashed to make way for the lame new toy characters,Optimus or junky plastic Hot Rod,who's cooler???HMMMMMMMM.
I remember being so distraught about the really cool characters getting killed, that when the Dinobots show up to fight the Constructicons,i quickly told my dad i had to use the bathroom and i took off out of the theater for a few minutes,i wasn't about to see those guys get killed! I was relieved when i came back in a few minutes to see they survived. My dad never understood why i had to pee right in the middle of the big action scene..."you couldn't hold it?"
I was a weird kid. Prowl forever! Oh well,at least it was better than that GIjoe movie,i thought that junk was weak even as a kid....Cobra-la?? What the crap??? They didn't even kill anybody! As upsetting as it was,at least the Transformers weren't playing around, you screw with Megatron, you get your head shot off.

Transformers IS a toy commercial, albeit the best toy commercial in the history of mankind.

yeah essentialy its a marketing scheme, the best way to get new toys over, but its not just that.

go bots was exactly the same yet it wasnt as succesful on tv or as a toy.

    the reason?-

    the mythology.

it has its fingers in so many genre pies its remarkable-

classic good vs evil story, theres autobots, and decepticons, its that simple, but as deep as you want it to be,optimus and megatron are two of the best examples of hero and villian chemestry i can think of,they just complement each other, one stands for peace and humanity, the other for selfishness, hatred and pure domination.

its one of the best sci-fi consepts ever, yeah i know giant robots isnt original, but giant robots with theyre own personalitys, from theyre own planet, who transform into things is awesome, autobots being transport/worker vehicles, decepticons being war machines, creations of evil and tyranny.

the movie, even though it was just an excuse for producing a new toy line and killing off some of the old toys, did have a good sci-fi plot and some cool scenes,if it was just about the toys theyd just introduce the new guys and have them show off theyre eccessorys and it just wouldnt have much going for it.

unicron was a good enemy,a new threat that no one had seen before.

the death of optimus was emotional,as well as some other g1 guys getting maimed,it was harsh and gritty, and thats what made it worthy of noterioty.

and the soundtrack was awesome and well used.
