Could be an interesting battle, eh?

Gandalf is so above Dumbledore it's not even funny, even as Gandalf the Grey. Dumbledore wouldnt' last two seconds against the Balrog.Originally Posted by Derek

Dumbledore takes it up the ass from Gandalf.
Is'nt Gandolf a demi-god? Oh well, anyways, he takes out Dumbldore easy.
I think the dumbledore takes this fight, he seems to know more in the way of spell casting, while gandalf is mainly a wizard of fire
Dumbledore is below Gandalf in power and magic. Gandalf has learned over 1000 spells of Elves, Men, and Dwarves.Originally Posted by Atom_basher
When he was Gandalf the Grey, he turned into different animals effortlessly. He also spent a whole night reciting spells to open the gate of Moria. And, he fought the Balrog, a Balrog of Morgoth.
While Gandalf the White, he was so powerful he became the new head of the order of Istari, was much more powerful than Saruman. Contrary to the movie, he fought evenly with the Witch King, before the Witch King went to kill the Rohirrim.

Interesting? Perhaps if you really hate Dumbledore and Gandalf is channeling Angelus....Originally Posted by Derek

Well, assuming that it's Gandalf the Grey (because the White version was just too badass to be believe), I don't think it's that one-sided.
Okay, so he fought and killed the Balrog after that fall to the centre of the Earth, but if Dumbledore can keep him away (and Dumbledore should've proved his skill with long-range offensive spells in book 5) then the fight *would* in fact be interesting to watch.
Gandalf still wins, however.
Throw in Ridcully, just because :).
I like the idea. And with Mustrum being the outdoorsy, Hemingway-style 'Man's Man' wizard that he is, keeping himself in shape and all that, he could always resort to physical violence (not saying he would, just that he CAN).Originally Posted by Peter

A wizard fight and one pulls a knife... that would work!Originally Posted by mdf2
Doesn't Dumbledore know the killing curse or the other two?
Dumbledore almost certainly knows Avada Kedavra, since Voldemort was surprised that he wasn't using it in their duel. Why Dumbledore didn't try the Killing Curse is an Important Question, according to JKR.
The important question here, however, is whether the Killing Curse would work on Gandalf, since he is in large part immortal. In fact, the Killing Curse would probably affect Gandalf and the current Voldemort in the same way, as both are essentially immortal spirits in mortal bodies. Since Dumbledore didn't attempt it on Voldemort, there is a good chance that it would be ineffective against either the Dark Lord or Gandalf.
Dumbledore still has hundreds of other, marginally less lethal spells to fall back upon, though, so the exclusion of the Killing Curse doesn't give Gandalf an automatic win.
Maybe it could be that Dumbledore doesn't like to kill people?
Gandalf, for sure. Especially if the fight gets to close quarters, Glamdring the Foe Hammer cuts Albus in two.
