    Default Hitler's Birthday

Today is the birthday of one of the worst human beings in history.

    He was a horrible man.

The worst bigot in the history of humankind.

A killer of millions of innocent people and the man that nearly destroyed Europe and has ruined Germany's reputation forever.

but boy, did he love his watermelon.

I actually admire Hitler. I hated his excution of his ideas, but he was one of the greatest political thinkers and speakers of all time. The best is of course Winston Churchill.

Congratulations on having the nerve to admit to such a thing and leaving yourself open to a verbal assault from those narrow minded enough to not quite understand what you're saying.

Personally, I don't admire Hitler or anything about him but you're as entitled have your belief as much as I am mine.

I just think that his provocative opinion isn't based in much fact. Hitler's "political thinking" is basically racism and hunger for power, and he was a horrible speaker. German historians are still trying to figure out how somebody that bad could move the masses the way he did, and it can only be understood in the context of the extreme crisis Germany was facing in the 30s. But even Adolf knew it was better to have the really imported speeches ("Wollt Ihr den totalen Krieg?") delivered by Goebbels.

    My blog.

We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.

The only thing to actually admire about Hitler was his ability to influence people. It was incredible and there is a lot to learn there. But outside of that I really struggle to see anything worthy of admiration. I'd be really interested to know why you think he was a great political thinker.

Well I would also say that his use of media is something to be admired. He knew how to manipulate not just words and emotions but also visuals— very much a decade or two ahead of his time. Entire visual languages came out of the Nazi propoganda machine that are still used to this day.

Graphic design and conceptual thinking probably wouldn't really be where it is today without Germany of the 20's, 30' and 40's. (Note that I said Germany...not Nazism)

To bad so many people don't study that and end up going through life with bad taste. Has anyone ever really looked and seen how bad design and typography are in todays comics? Yikes!

And I wouldn't say Hitler ruined Germany's reputation forever. Severely damaged it? Yes. But all things pass in time. Having been to Germany I think its a pretty cool place (well at least Munich was!). If we were to judge every single culture and civilization based solely on their actions, then not a single one of us would have a right to debate much of anything. Every nation, religion and philosophy has had its dark days...its just that Nazism was likely Germany's darkest.

Just when we thought our reputation was getting better, Ratzinger is gonna tarnish it for a few more decades. :(
