There are no bad characters, only bad writers who can't handle them or realise their true potential .

Care to explain your reasoning for that?.. He's a timeless, epic skyfather. He's cooler than every other god in the Marvel universe, and also cooler than Thor imo.

Because his only purpose is to make Thor and Loki suffer. Even when he's trying to protect his children he messes up and makes everything worse. He's passed off as wise when he's just arrogant and manipulative. He plays everyone like puppets leading them to their inevitable doom in Ragnorok. He takes the souls of the valiant dead and treats them well so they will become his own personal army in the final days. He keeps the gods from evolving into something new and forging their own paths.


JMS basically says that everything annoying about Thor comics is Odin's fault. Still, I remember a Thor who turned his back on fate. I still don't understand why he surrendered to it.

I think Daredevil is a good example of a character that can be great when written well. With poor writing or stuck on a team-book with flashier characters, the character wouldn't necessarily work. Fortunately, Daredevil has had plenty of talented writers over the years who have made him a well-rounded, complex and interesting character who has starred in numerous excellent stories.
