    Default Oldboy

I have to praise this awesome movie, in the hopes to get as many people to see it as possible Chan Wook Parks "OLDBOY".

I dont want to spoil anything, but I can say that is a film about revenge, not a revenge movie, but a film about the actual concept of revenge.

The central premise is a guy by the name of Oh Dae Su, is kidnapped, for seemingly no reason, imprisoned for 15 years against his will, and then let out into the world with no explanation other than a simple message "if you can find out why you where imprisoned, I will kill myself ".

What follows is just an awesomely cool series of events with many twists and turns ( if you like twisty movies ) that legitimately shock, it also has a touch of the old uber violence in the tradition of Takeshi Miike.

It feels so much better to praise something you love, so see Oldboy you WILL love it ( or reeeeeeeally hate it depending on your taste ).

I believe it is now out in US cinemas, but you can import the DVD from asia or the UK and I recommend it highly, im sure those who have seen it will say the same.

    CLAW HAMMER....NOOOOOO ! :D

Oh trust me it is not that at all, just go in thinking you are seeing something more harsh and brutal than the average revenge movie and even then you have no idea.

Not that bad, but I would prefer Gary Oldman. Jane's better than Nicholas Cage, though.

Fantastic film. Expands on Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance on every level.

In case any possible implication could spoil the film for those of you who haven't seen it.

I saw this last week, @ the Nuart. It was great, but my luck continued to hold out, and I sat in front of, and next two, groups of people who'd seen the film several times before, and were discusing what each up-coming section was going to be about. What I would have paid for an air-horn!

I know this is an old thread but had to say something

if you haven't seen it yet do you will be amazed

    a little quote
"The film won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and high praise from the President of the Jury, director Quentin Tarantino, who could not persuade the members of the jury to give it the Palme d'Or over Fahrenheit 9/11"

and you must see Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

"We cling to our own point of view,
as though everything depended on it.
    Yet our opinions have no permanence;
    like autumn and winter,
    they gradually pass away."

Ugh, "Fahrenheit 9/11" was a terribly overrated movie.

Lady Vengeance just becomes a whole other beast in the last third of the movie. It's an audacious move by the director. Gripping stuff.

    Thumbs up Oldboy (favorite scenes)

Surprised no one has started a thread on this movie.

Easily, this film has some of the best scenes ever! Personal favorite, the hallway fight scene. It plays like a video game, no? Single shot, no cuts, travels from point a to point b fluidly in one angle. Some people have said it's quite unrealistic, which is somewhat true, but the raw emotion in Oh Dae Su (the protagonist) makes it one of the most realistic fight scenes ever. Plus, it gets rid of any kung fu element you may see in most movies. Reminds me of playing Super Mario O_O.

If you've never seen it, you can see it here.

If you're interested and decide to rent/buy the movie, just be aware that the movie is not all action. In fact, this scene is probably the most action heavy.
And when you have finished it, you'll definitely notice the similarities between the movie and...
    spoilers:
Greek tragedies, more specifically, Oedipus Rex

I'm surprised there are no topics on Cobra, starring Sylvester Stallone.
The Punisher: I’m going to cauterize your rectum, sealing it shut, so when you turn those delicious Pink Pants™ Fruit Pies into waste products the bilirubin in your feces will leach into your bloodstream and you’ll die screaming! And I’ll watch while having sex with this grateful prostitute!

Trussed-Up Hooker: Blueberry are my favorite!

In other words, what StoneGold said.
