Well, the essentials are pretty old. I'm guessing these Essentials are the early ones with Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, right? If so, those stories are from the 1970s. And a LOT has happened since those tales.

But yes, all the new X-comics are in the same continuity as the Essentials. And Uncanny XM and XM are in the same continuity. But many characters have evolved dramatically from their earlier days (Wolvie, Magneto, Storm.) My advice is to devour ALL the Essentials because X-Men gold is found there awaiting to be mined, and at unbelievably cheap prices to boot !

They exist in the same continuity, but you don't have to read one to read the other. Nothing in X-Men is continued in Uncanny X-Men or anything like that. Both books feature different teams of X-Men characters. Some characters pop up in both books now and then, and sometimes occurences in one books (like the mansion getting destroyed) will pop up in the other, but for the most part they're self contained.

There were times during the 90's that the two titles were very much linked where you had to read X-Men #76 then Uncanny #385, then X-Men #77, then Uncanny #386, etc. But not anymore.

I just made those numbers up for illustration people, don't jump down my throat.

Look, Ryan, everyone knows that Uncanny and X-Men had the same final digit every month, with UXM #310, then X-Men #30, then UXM #311, then X-Men #31, etc. And X-Men #76 would have come out in the same month as UXM #356, NOT UXM #385.

X-Men: the Xavier Chronicles, which captures the lost era where Xavier took in Tessa/Sage & trained her in secret while the orginal five attended school.

Tessa & Xavier discussed their mutual love for Cerebro!

    Stop teasing the newbie, Vash.

joku2, there's a thread at the top of this board devoted to your exact question. Check there, as this thread will probably be either deleted or folded into that one.
