I have read schism and I am currently reading Wolverine and the X-men. I wanted to know what trades would be good to lead up to schism? Particularly why the went to San Francisco, how they got to the island of Utopia, and what happened before the lead up to Schism.

    Thanks

Cyclops travels to SF with a small team in UXM Divided We Stand. Everyone moves out in UXM Manifest Destiny. They move to the island is in UXM/DarkAvengers: Utopia.

I'm not new but I was just wondering if I could get some opinions. Is the original X-Factor post-PAD worth picking up? Or was the quality considerably less?

Also, i've been reading Claremont's New Mutants, and have the same question. Should I stop reading after issue 47?

Have you read the Prelude to Schism TP yet?

If you're looking for major X-events that lead to them San Fran & Utopia I think you want to go back & read House of M, Messiah CompleX, & Messiah War. I've just started on this journey myself so I may be mistaken.

Anyone looking for a great Wolverine story should pick up Old Man Logan, just recently finished reading it, & I can safely say it's easily my favorite Wolverine story.

What are the X-titles out there now? What are they about?

I am thinking about to start with the X-Men.

There are two main series: X-Men and Uncanny X-Men - Could anyone explain to me what the difference of these two series is? Are these series complete idependent solo series or are they very related with a lot of crossovers?

I wouldn't count X-men as main. The two flagships are Uncanny X-men (Blue side, the one in Utopia) and Wolverine and the X-men (Gold side, at the school).
Uncanny X-men has Utopia's premiere superhero team. It's the one with the A-listers, the big fights and more dangerous villains. It's also the more likely to get involved in crossover (like it is now with AvX).
X-men has Utopia's security team and is more involved with the rest of the MU than the other X-books. Almost every arc as a guest star - Spiderman, the FF, vampires, Blade etc. It's a sort of team up book.

    Hi guys,

Recently started collecting comics and so far I'm catching up on Brubakers Cap & have Invincible Iron Man on order but for some reason I really want to *try* reading X-Men. Where would be the best place to start for someone who's a complete beginner looking to get a feel for the series/backstory?

    Thanks in advance.

    Default Question..

I've been out of comics for many many years. I collected for years as a kid and still have close to 5 thousand of them bagged and boarded stored away in the house. I've tried on occasion to get back into comics but i cant get past the bloat that is comics today. How many avengers books are out now? 5? How many groups is wolverine in? I'm so lost when trying to pick them up as they jump from one global cross over to another and I find it hard to keep track of where everyone is and what they are doing. Not surprising that with the popularity of the avengers that I've heard of a Avengers vs Xmen or something or other coming up. Predictable.

Years ago there was one avengers book, a few x books, two or three spiderman books. Spider-man wasnt also an avenger, and we had the odd crossover. Easy to pick up and start reading and know everything going on.

So my question is... What the heck can I read thats simple and not a marketing genius's bait to get me to read 45 titles instead of 3 or 4?

Not in the right thread I guess but I dont see a General forum.

    Thanks.

Back issues. And I can see how you could miss the general question thread that's tagged at the top of the page.
There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.

I used to be a massive X-fan back in the 90's and after over ten years out of comics, I got back into them with DC's New 52. Last month I decided to jump back into Marvel with the AvX crossover and picked up several titles (Daredevil, Amazing Spidey, Avenging Spidey, Thor, Iron Man, Avengers (Main, New, Academy, and Secret), Defenders, Fantastic Four). When I spoke with my local comic book store owner, he said I only really needed Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine and the X-Men so I started collecting those as well. I really like both titles and think I might want to collect the other X-titles, but want to know more about what they are and what they are about, X-Factor included. Can someone give me a short synopsis of each X-title?

    Thank you!

    Blue side (Utopia)
Uncanny X-men: Extinction Team, deals with biggest threaths
X-men: security team, but it's been a team up book till now and they've done next to nothing in terms of security. This should change starting from next issue though.
New Mutants: clean up crew, but they mostly get bored and drunk in SanFran

    Gold side
Wolverine & the X-men: school stuff; Wolverine and the core students
X-men Legacy: teachers' book, set at the school, basically a Rouge solo, sometimes NXM appear
Astonishing X-men: other theachers' book but no school stuff and babysitting; personal lives and superheroing
    Uncanny X-force: secret kill squad
X-factor: private investigators. They... do their thing. Just pick it up, it's good.
