You can find out what's shipping in the upcoming week at http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping.asp .

Upcoming TPBs are included in Marvel's monthly solicitations. CBR usually posts these around the 15th of each month. Here's the solicits for May 2006.

Ok, I'll give this a shot.

I subscribe through Marvel, and can get some subscriptions of 12 issues for $20. I was thinking of adding a couple. Here is the list of titles they currently offer.

    Uncanny X-Men
    X-Men
    New X-Men
    Wolverine
    Exiles
    Excalibur
    Astonishing X-Men
    Cable/Deadpool
    Ultimate X-Men

So, out of these books which of these is any good. First off about my tastes, I'm looking for a book written in a more modern style, i.e. good dialogue and characterization, and generally want a combo of good writing and good art. I also want a fairly consistent creative team since I am locked in for 12 issues once I buy. Thanks guys.

I'd say Astonishing X-Men and Ultimate X-Men for good dialogue and characterization.

New X-Men it's really fun too.

Uncanny X-Men and X-Men will both have new creative teams coming July. Maybe you should wait for it.

Personally, I've never read C&D but I hear its hilarious and I haven't read Wolverine in years.

But Astonishing is really a good bet, as well as Ultimate X-Men, whose creative team is just getting started. Uncanny and X-Men, as Hi-Fi said will be getting new creative teams, but from my perspective it looks promising.

Personally, New X-Men is somewhere in the middle and Excalibur and Exiles the weaker of the bunch.

If your looking to read some Cable and Deadpool go read the TPB The Burnt Offering. It's issues 6-10 I think. It's a great read.

Yeah, the 1st wasn't the best. It was still good, but compared to Vol. II, it was nothing. The issues in the 3rd tpb are also genius, but I actually didn't much care for "Bossum Buddies". The 25th issue put this book back in it's glory. I can't wait for Domino to show up. I just bought the first two issues of her first mini (by Ben Raab), and the first two issues of her second mini (by Joe Pruett). Good stuff. I love Domino.

The scenes between Cyclops and Cable and Deadpool and the other X-Men are great.

I stopped after the first arc. I am glad to hear it got better.

I hope this is under the right thread. I'm a complete newbie. Ok, so I don't like having the individual comics so I bought the first two uncanny x-men graphic novels in the unbound editions. I was hooked. Now I want to buy Holy War and my question is are all the rest of them in paperback editions only? And if they are, does Marvel have any plans on making unbound editions for the rest?

    Default Um..

I'm a pretty big X newb...but when and why did Xavier leave the team. It's referred to in HOM 1, and I've been curious.

Also, when did the 'main' X-Men switch to astonishing, and what's the deal with all the different teams now?

new to X-men and marvel in general..amazing spidey 530 was my first marvel book ever. Also picked up a couple of Astonishing X-Men (Whedon's name caught my attention) and the latest Uncanny. From what I gather skimming through, Uncanny is at a low point right now?

Yeah, it is pretty bad, but in 3 issues a writer named Brubaker takes over who shall kick ass!

They are only in tpb. I've not heard of any plans for HC collections.

Xavier left the team at the end of the "Dangerous" arc in Astonishing X-Men #7-12.

    spoilers:
In that arc it was revealed the Danger Room was actually a sentient being and Xavier knew this. But instead of releasing it, Xavier kept it captive because he felt the ability to adequately train his X-Men and the golas they would accomplish outweighed the Danger Room's sentient rights. The X-Men disagreed.
    end of spoilers

Depends who you ask. Personally I think Uncanny X-Men's the best its been in over a hundred issues. Its not perfect, but considering all the bad in Uncanny's run over the last 15 years I'd have a hard time calling this a low point.
