Heimdall is going to be black in the cartoons too?

Well, he was white in Earths' Mightiest Heroes, though I only remember him in one episode. Reminded me of him in JMS Thor.

I think this is simple a melding with the film universe. If Nick is bald in the film universe, he is here too.

If Heimdall is black in the film universe, then he is here.

If Hawkeye and Black Widow are Agents of SHIELD in the film universe, then they are here.

For better or worse, that's what'd be.

I do wonder, did they cast a black man to voice Heimdall due to the characters' skin colour, or because of a voice similar to Idris Elba?

Maybe, simply works for what they want to do, in Agents of SMASH et al?

Judging from everything I've seen from Ultimate Spider-Man through Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., the new Marvel animated universe they've got going is largely an animated adaptation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with everything up to The Avengers being canon save for the part where Loki kills Agent Coulson. After that, it diverges into its own continuity, which is where the Marvel Universe XD animated series take place.
