At this point, I'm trusting Marvel's choices in direction.

I'm more concerned about the writing and editing.

Marvel seems to be fairly hands on in how they're building their product, so I'm hoping a Strange film will lean more towards gravitas than levity. I mean Ant-Man for sure is going to veer towards comedy and they've talked up the humor in GotG a lot.
Currently reading She-Hulk, Deadpool, Swamp Thing, Ms. Marvel

Probation: Ghost Rider, Loki: LoA, Secret Avengers

Looking forward to All-New Ultimates, Flash Gordon and Doctor Mirage.

All those are good directors, including Nikolaj. He's a very thoughtful choice.

Yeah, Arcel is the one that is sticking out to me. I'd really dig that.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that Marvel Studios will jump up to three releases per year starting in Phase 3, with two sequels & one new subfranchise each year.

    New
    Dr. Strange
    Black Panther
    Inhumans

    Sequels
    Thor 3
    Captain America 3
    Guardians of the Galaxy 2
    Hulk 2
    Avengers 3
and somewhere in the mix... the surprise announcement of Iron Man 4 with RDJ

This isn't counting Ant-Man, since that's something of a "bonus" part of this wave of films due to various delays.

Why do these considerations worry me that Marvel is going to take Doctor Strange in a cartoonish direction...

Dr Strange has the potential to be either awesome or horrific with little in between.

This list of names makes me feel they are thinking animated movie, which would be a shame.

    Dead Israelite - no clue

Nikolaj Arcel, and Jonathan Levine are very good at making cheap movies look really expensive which is very good for Doctor Strange.

And Mark Andrews is the in-house choice who did Brave

Jonathan Levine did The Wackness, 50/50, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, and that Warm Bodies movie from last year. Nikolaj Arcel did A Royal Affair and was one of the writers on the original The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Mark Andrews was one of the directors on Brave, as well as one of the directors on the Pixar short One Man Band; he's done some stuff on Samurai Jack and the good Clone Wars cartoon. Don't know anything about Dean Israelite.
