To counter, I think most people would automatically assume that a movie featuring talking monkeys would be a funny movie (because monkeys = funny), but the all the Planet of the Apes movies have gone for a more serious tone.

I'm not saying one is more right than the other, but it is possible to go a serious route even with elements that lend itself better to comedic routes. Talking turtles, the same thing, but the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was pretty dark and gritty, even with a lot of humour in it.

Almost looks like it's meant to be a parody of sci fi and superhero movies.

Someone linked to a video of Peter Serafinowicz ("what a bunch of a-holes") on IMDB and I had to show it here. He's even more awesome than I thought he was:

Whereas the prior Nova series by DnA was one of the best runs of the last ten years, especially the early arcs.
    That's all opinion.

Also, GL is arguably DC's third biggest franchise in publishing. Nova is not even a top 15 franchise. Heck even Spider-man can't support multiple Spider-books (see Venom and Scarlet Spider).

You really can't compare the two.
Currently reading She-Hulk, Deadpool, Swamp Thing, Ms. Marvel

Probation: Ghost Rider, Loki: LoA, Secret Avengers

Looking forward to All-New Ultimates, Flash Gordon and Doctor Mirage.
