Default We've had our first musical passing of 2014, and it's a big one: Phil Everly dies.

Just three days into 2014, rock 'n roll has lost one of its greatest pioneers in Phil Everly, who died today at the age of 74.

Phil and his brother Don were rock superstars during the 1950s and early 1960s as the Everly Brothers. Their harmony vocals influenced such later performers as the Beatles, the Hollies, and Simon and Garfunkel. They were also crucial artists in melding rock with country during the late 1960s.

    R.I.P. Phil Everly.

The comic book industry/medium is paradoxically the most fragile and most resilient thing in the world. Its noisiest critics insist every day that every cough, sputter, or dirty look threatens to destroy it, but it has survived every prediction of its demise for nearly eight decades.

Sad news. My thoughts go out to Don and all other loved ones who are struck by this loss. Hope Phil's found some peace after the battle against his disease. The Everlys had some great songs out, like:

This also puts a sad note to the release of Billy Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones' Songs Our Daddy Taught Us project. I'd been meaning to check that out all along. Wonder if Phil ever got around to hearing either the rough cuts or the end results of that at all. Rest in peace.
