I hate to get completely off-topic, but I wonder if Bunn is still writing that Heroes book.

I never saw FD as a long term story, because if it was planned out as such, there should have been loose ends sprinkled in the books, but who can tell me what things were foreshadowed that were never acted on? With Hickman you can see his long picture, because he introduces his antagonists and never lets you see them. With FD, you never got that impression. Each book seemed to be self contained or finished the next issue. The only thread was the annoying continuous reappearance of Caroline Le Fey, who never seemed to fulfill her potential, and just flitted about the periphery. I still don't know why she was there, and that would have been nice if Le Fey had some beef with the FD, but she didn't.
Visited NY and DC and saw Spider-Man Turn off the Dark.

I will definitely miss the book now but I've got to be honest....FD was just plain not good until issue #9. If you're going to go for this slow of a burn in getting the team together, you should at least tease it earlier on in the series. Go for something nonlinear; start it off with an image of the complete team fighting the Doom Maidens, have a character wondering "how did we get to this point?", and then build the team in reverse. As it stands, I think the book got off on the total wrong foot and completely lost it's audience.

Will Sliney, while a good artist, was never a great fit for this team IMO.

Not really, based on the eager Defenders cosplayers at NYCC and the messages of support from Twitter and other social media.

    Mostly lost it's audience?

We won't know unless we have hard numbers to come by.
