Default Beware the Ides of March!

2,049 years ago today, Julius Caesar was sold out and murdered by men he thought were his buddies. How might the world have been a different place today if he hadn't?

I wouldn't have had to read that play in high school.

Smuggletrain thinks he gets out of it THAT easy:

I wouldn't have had to read that play in high school.
Sure you would! It just would have had a different ending. ;)

Buried Alien gets reparation in the form of an answer:

In the long run, probably not a lot. He probably wouldn't be as famous in Western Society as he is. Little Caesar's would have had a different name, as well as Edward G. Robinson's movie.

But, frankly, I don't think ol' Julie would have changed much that happened after him, except in small local transient ways.

Well, for one thing, King Features would've re-named Bluto something else besides Brutus.

I'm sure he would have swiftly moved out of the salad region and invaded the main meal and we'd have a Caesar steak or maybe Caesar back ribs.

I had to laugh when I read the thread title BA

Today is my Dad's 60th birthday, and we are throwing him a surprise party.

I am giving a speech, which I begin with the story of Julius Casear and the soothsayer and how March 15th became infamous, and how nearly two millenia later a sweet little red haired baby was born in Toronto.

The speech wraps up with my Dad being the rare kind of person who could put a positive spin on the Ides of March.

And then you're all going to stab him, right?

Right after we put on our togas.

Canada is so soft on crime that we'll probably get 10 hours of community service.

Actually it would have had a different middle. Ceasar is killed in the third act or so (it's a five act play). The play really is more about Brutus and his decision to kill Ceasar and the consequences thereof.

But it was not Brutus's decision.

It was Xena. I was watching the documentry on it on DVD the other day. And she was totally behind it. She had it planned that Brutus would betray him.

Granted She and Gabrielle were being cruicfied but still. I blame Xena.

Ah, but I wasn't talking about the historical events, I was talking about Shakespeare's play. It is a shame though that Shakespeare chose to leave Xena out of the play.
