When I first read the GN five years ago, I found it incredibly lame, and a recent rereading gave me the notion that the nice art is its only good aspect.
I doubt I would have liked any better had it come out in its original pitch-form, a SECRET SOCIETY OF SUPER-VILLAINS for the ultraviolence era, but at least then the characters wouldn't have seemed so derivative.
I don't even have a problem with doing nasty, morally questionable versions of regular DC characters. I just hate it when they're shallow, nasty, morally questionable versions.
Happily WANTED is not old enough to be deemed any sort of "classic" yet, but it does have its origins in a DC Comics pitch, which may give it some relevance on this board.
