IMAGE publishes some of the best books on the market. They have nothing to do with 90s characters.Whenever I hear Image come up, the brand is one I still associate first and foremost with awful Nineties-style art. Even though Image is more like Vertigo set out to be currently, and most of those awful 90s characters were Wildstorm and have been raked into the DCU; they didn't interest me then, and don't now.
Jack Kirby wasn't experimental or cartoon-y? I feel like he is the definition of both words.Indie books will also be a hard sell because I'm a classicist in art; ultimately, art i like is going to continue to resemble Hal Foster or Matt Baker or Jack Kirby or Neal Adams, it has to carry on the tradition. I don't like cartoonish or experimental styles. I don't like slow or oblique storytelling, and remain a fan of classic Stan Lee style prose in comics as well.
