3/5: Action Comics, Loki, Punisher, Moon Knight, Veil, Magneto, Jupiter's Legacy
So basically people saying this is pre reboot Superman...just without trunks?
I have got to admit that I really did enjoy the first issue of Superman Unchained. However, the comic was NOT at all what I expected and the ending totally tossed me for a loop which has me all the more excited for the next issue despite the STEEP price tag of $4.99 which really has me upset. Heck, comics are heading in the same direction as video games in terms of pricing.
Jim Lee's art was absolutely amazing, highly kinetic and pretty stylish. Scott Snyder's narrative and dialogue were also quite solid although the initial pacing seemed a bit forced; nonetheless this was a great read and I'm going to give it a go up until at least the third issue before I decide to either keep or remove it from my pull list.
This book is really what plain old Superman should have been when they launched the new 52. I liked Snyder's take on Superman way more than his take on Batman. I really wish someone else was inking Lee's art though. I think his pencils benefit from having a thicker line.
While I agree that the poster didn't make it worth $5, I disagree with those saying that since it's a 32 page title it isn't worth $4. First off, if no one noticed there weren't any ads in the issue (though there was an interview in the back), and it had 24 story pages instead of the usual 20 for a 32 page comic. Compare that to a 40 page title like Batman, which had 27 story pages, and I'd say it's worth $4 if not $3.50.
But on a serious note, I would be down with the book if they did a 24 page, no ads, 3.99 model.
this was surprisingly good; snyder's flaws over in batman were absent here. art is nice, but i'm not too much of a fan of lee's work.
only problem...this thing is 5 bucks!! still, i might add this to my pull
The coloring was great and thats the saving grace for Lee's art here, though it wasnt too bad. Snyder does a better Superman than Batman in my opinion. No flaws in writing here.
Those are you arguing the poster was worth 5, its not about the poster at all. They knew they could draw more money from it being Snyder and Lee, so they use that to charge the price because they know people will buy it. The posters are just an excuse just in case.
Easily one of the better Snyder comics I've read in a long time, despite it having some of Snyders known flaws(mystery tied to the past, exposition).Overall solid issue ,though the villain design is just crap(seems like another one of those lame 90's superpowered beings) and the art was average, but heh that's Jim Lee a man out of his prime.
