Damn, yet another improvement!
We start this issue with the team attacking the base of the Middle Eastern broker. The broker proceeds to tell Rulk where the Russian dealer will be. The team then kills the M.E. broker and all his men.
We then get to where we had the preview pages, with the team staking out the meeting place of the Russian broker, and Rulk is talking to Deadpool about the Punisher. Deadpool makes it out like the Punisher is losing his mind and is starting to seem unstable, which seems to be patently false when we flash to Frank calmly eating and waiting for orders. Rulk tells Deadpool that he paired him with Frank for a reason, and Deadpool assumes it is because Rulk wants him to watch Frank. Rulk then hands Leader a laptop, telling him that he brought Leader both because he doesn't trust him, and because he wants him to hack into the terrorist's sat phones and link them to a nearby satellite so that they can listen in.
At this point, we know where the entire team is except for Elektra and Flash (I am not counting Mercy as part of the team, really). We cut to the interior of the meeting place, with the broker and his buyers all coming together. There are panels of women bringing food and drink, and the broker talks about how the covering of the women makes them mysterious, as it cuts to the 'face' of one of the women, and we're clearly meant to see this as a plant. Is this Elektra, or is this too obvious?
We cut back to Frank and Deadpool, and Deadpool's decided to go downstairs and check on Frank. He criticizes his perch, saying it sucks; Frank responds that it depends on where one is standing. As Deadpool agrees that the view from the perch is nice, we see get a view from the back and he's holding a gun behind his back pointed at Frank. Deadpool has apparently decided that the middle of a mission is the best time to start murdering team members.
We cut back to the interior of the meeting place as the broker (with the same mystery woman at his side) and everyone hears a gunshot. Rulk asks Elektra for a status, and we pull back outside to find that Elektra was actually on a distant rooftop across from Frank, and the sound of a shot fired was her putting a bullet in Deadpool's head. Wonder what that will do to their budding, one-sided relationship? Rulk mentions he had hoped that it wouldn't come to what happened, indicating that he realized Deadpool was lying to him, and it was Deadpool being watched. He states that they'll deal with him later, and tells the team that "Thunderbolts are go"
Frank blows up the cars outside the meeting place, and this throws the men inside into a frenzy. As they start fleeing, we find out (somewhat hilariously), that the woman who was obviously a plant is actually Flash! He transforms or what have you back into his Venom suit and starts laying people to waste. Back outside, we get some great panels of men who made it outside being confronted first by Frank with a rocket launcher, and then Elektra with one. They both fire, and blood, explosions, and hilarity ensue. From the back of the meeting place, Rulk heads off another group that made it outside, and punches his way through them and into the meeting location, giving us a great spread of the team (minus Deadpool) in action.
The only person they've left alive is the broker, who insists he doesn't know any names or anything meaningful; just that he was given a phone and instructions to arrange the meeting the team just busted up. As they're talking, the broker's phone rings, and Rulk tries to prevent him from answering.
Back with Leader, we see his screen say that there's an incoming signal, and then he's rocked by a massive explosion (obviously set off by the phone call).
Whew...that was a pretty great issue, imo. I didn't feel like there was anything weird left out, or any action scenes cut short by the script. This was a fairly engaging story about the team tracking down the brokers (of which there is still one more to go!). I particularly enjoyed the bait-and-switch with Venom, as I was convinced the 'woman' was Elektra. It's also going to be interesting to see how things ratchet up in intensity now that Elektra has put a bullet in Deadpool's brain...will he still feel the same for her, or will he now want her dead as well as Frank? Way is setting up some interesting dynamics with those three that could drastically effect the whole team.
And last but now least: Holy shit Noto is knocking the art out of the park! If only we had this Way and Noto from the start...can you imagine?!
Anyway, I hope the rest of you that read this book were as entertained as I was with this one.
