None of the characters in Earth 2 have been all that shocking, or have I missed something?

I really wanted to enjoy WF, but I gave up in boredom somewhere around issue 5.
Liking Earth 2 quite a bit - but I'm over the introduction of new characters now. I need the story to get a little more intricate and character-development driven, or it will lose me soon.

I have yet to be shocked. Pleasantly surprised? Many times. And the plot has moved incredibly briskly, considering the size of the cast.
