Simon Baz isn't black, he's an Arab-American of Lebanese descent. Not even close to being the same. Besides, who's to say that Baz is supposed to replace John Stewart? I actually haven't seen him referenced by any of the incoming Green Lantern title writers, so for all we know, Baz is on his way out of the role.

I'm disappointed to hear of John Stewart's potential future death. For the longest time, I've said there are too many Green Lanterns from Earth but now we have Kyle Rayner as the universe's White Lantern and it looks like Guy Gardner is joining the Red Lantern Corps, so that's two less. Personally, I would have liked to have see John join Kyle in Green Lantern: New Guardians as the representative of the GLC.

Really...? Replacing one black guy with another? This isn't "The Walking Dead" TV show and Baz isn't black, Stewart is. But you have a point with replacing minority characters. Just offensive the way you stated it. Unless you're talking about another character, then this reply is rendered moot.

They're doing this because of the Justice League movie, at least that's what it sounds like. They want Reynolds as GL, and if they can erase Stewart the same way they did for Wally, less confusion. What they don't realize is the reason the GL movie sucked wasn't because of confusion, it was because it was a soul-less piece of crap. It would make sense to have Stewart in the movie instead of forcing Cyborg down folks throats. That's character ripe with stereotypes. And he's more metal than human, so it's more like a quota for robots than having an African American. IMHO

If they were doing it for JL movie reasons (which I don't believe), then that would be pretty lame. Maybe Mogo gets his revenge.

But right now, there is no movie. There isn't even a script. The last JL movie script was rejected, and word is that if Man of Steel dies at the box office, the possible JL movie dies along with it.

Duly noted, but that wouldn't stop them from getting their ducks in a row. It actually makes more sense for marketing to kill Stewart now, so time elapses between his death and a new movie. Fans will be less in arms over Stewart's death and exclusion and the time will give them a buffer so they wouldn't connect the two actions together.

I wonder if there's any chance at DC turning everything around and changing their minds about things...paving the way for Fialkov and/or Diggle to return the same way Simone did a few months ago after supposedly being let go?

(Diggle is probably less likely...)
