"Uncanny X-Men" #3 by Brian Bendis and Chris Bachalo continues the upward trend in quality for the series as the Avengers come a-knocking.

I agree that 3.5 stars is way too little. This was a fantastic issue that was well-crafted from cover to cover. Chris Belacho's art and Brian Bendis's writing are a perfect meld. This issue deserves an extra star for Cyclops's awesome "Go to Hell" moment on its own. Now I can see how some reviewers might not be too happy with an issue that was mostly talk and not much action. But Bendis's strength has always been stories that rely more on drama than action. And this issue only reinforced this point. While I wouldn't give this issue a perfect 5 out of 5, it's still pretty darn close in my opinion.

you know that 3.5 is bs, right?

your review is not even critical at all as far as flaws are concerned.... plus, a 3.5 review is an insult nowadays especially since we have mediocore / rehashed mainstream books getting the 5 star salute.

I have to say I am a little disappointed in the way cyclops is represented here. It was an interesting character study to see him riddled with guilt after he killed Xavier...him mentor and father figure. Now in this issue he's over it all of a sudden and blaming it on Stark? I dunno man that seemed a little lame to me. UNLESS! It turns out he was blaming it on Stark in front of the cameras purposely to gain a little public favor? take the heat off himself and the rest of mutant kind? but in reality is still really beaten up about it?

The new students that they have were a little irritating to me. They were those characters in the background that gave a snarky comment or humours response during a dramatic moment. They were supporting sitcom characters...although I do supposed thats Bendis' style right? I would like to see a different artist on the book.

I know my review seems a little harsh but I really have been enjoying Bendis on the X books thus far and have wanted him on them for a while now so I will continue to enjoy them. Lets see where he takes the X-Men.

I loved this issue. I can't believe how good it was because the last few issues felt so needless and boring. I love the pseudo-payoff on the Magneto deception as well as the possible rift between him and Cyclops. The whole Avengers confrontation was fantastic in that I love that Bendis is echoing the "Cyclops was right" argument from many of the readers, I love that he's making such a small group of X-Men seem so powerful, and I love that Bendis is actually making me interested in these new characters. I enjoyed the banter from the students because I didn't think it felt forced but more of an actual reaction that someone would have especially the line about the Hulk coupled with Bachalo's depiction of him. If next issue is as exciting as this one, the series will be completely reinvigorated for me while it was in a bit of a slump for a while. Also, I may be in a minority but I actually like Cyclops' new costume but I hate pretty much everyone else'. I don't see why they would dress in all black or all white while their team leader is in all red; These colours seem all random and out of place when put together.

I think it's more complicated than that. I think Cyclops is riddled with guilt for his part in everything, but is also disgusted by how the Avengers haven't taken responsibility for any of it and are just acting like authoritative stooges. Cyclops knows he isn't innocent but he is, quite understandably, fed up with the Avengers acting like they are.

Best issue so far, imo. The move Eva pulled on the Avengers was awesome. I figured she was gonna be powerful, and useful plot-wise, and she already has been. Now that we've seen what she can do I'm anxious to see how Bendis uses her...
