I saw 100s of copies of Justice League on the shelf unsold. Retailers may have bought in, but readers are over DC's crap characters and comics. The end is near for them. MARVEL NOW!! It can't compete.

My shop has a bunch of JLA's too but I think those might sell slower because they're mostly state variants that aren't my state.

Don't be worried about DC. The company will be fine as long as people continue to buy mostly JL, Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern books.

It's the Fringe Characters that you need to be worried about.

As a consumer of titles from most comic book companies, except Marvel, the most interesting part of the article was where the author advocates for titles with a clear vision from the author. I assume this implies the books have a consistent, internally logical feel to them and don't jump around at the whims of editors and the events of other books. It may also imply that the author is given a chance for a single vision, not an editorial team's vision. He points out that mostly this comes from creator owned books. I find that of the many independents I read, most of them are creator owned. Others have hired authors but the authors appear to be given more lattitude in approaching the charactor and plot.

The author believes a good book can build readership if it has the this clear vision. I think that this needs to be allowed at DC. Otherwise, we will keep seeing books fail and others DOA. Sadly, the author predicts Vibe has no chance based on the potential fan base and DC's Mendoza Line where they kill books. Also, the author does not see much marketing support and points out Aspen as a good example of getting people to give a book a chance. That was interesting.
Current Favorites: The Goon, Batgirl, Chew, Witchblade, Vibe, The Sixth Gun, Saga, Billy the Kids Old Time Oddities, Fatale, Batwoman, Talon, Storm Dogs, Earth 2, Justice League of America, Slumptown

Marvel's #2s are having massive drop offs as well. For example, orders for Uncanny X-Men #2 dropped by nearly 50% from #1.

Some of the Marvel NOW stuff is alright like New Avengers and Regular Avengers.

But the numbers for some are just awful.

    Young Avengers 1:71,254
    Young Avengers 2:43,559

That is like half the readership. Are there really that many unsold copies of the first one?

I think Marvel should learn better not to use tumblr as some sort of marketing gimmick to attract readers. A lot of people have a more unfavorable reaction towards that crowd than those that would read a comic with a call out to them.

If Dial H gets cancelled, that'll make it official for me - no New 52 books in my pull. With the end of Young Justice, the only other DC book I'm getting nowadays is Batman Beyond Unlimited. Pre-New 52 I had nearly 20 monthly DC titles, I carried over most of 'em and systematically quit them as they continued to pretty much all the way suck.

All those female-led titles are sinkin' ships, too.

Many of the Marvel Now #1s have financial incentives attached to them, where the retailer gets a higher discount if they exceed certain thresholds. That probably goes some way to explaining why most of the second issues have drops of that magnitude. It wouldn't be based on sell through of the first issues, because those would only have been on sale in shops a few days before retailers had to send in their final orders for #2, assuming #2 came out a month after #1.
