Freedom is the ability to live without fear of persecution. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less.
i would take a look at secret avengers if the team wasn't just Nick Fury And The Agents Of Shield With The Avengers name Slapped On the cover
that's the real problem....i don't want to read about hawkeye black widow and some random government agents i wanna read something awesome with a cast of characters that aren't just generic soldiers with guns
Batman Batwoman Animal Man Swamp Thing Justice League Dark Uncanny Avengers Adventure Time Ghostbusters Fearless Defenders Journey Into Mystery Superior Foes Of Spider-Man Trinity Of Sin: Pandora
The thing is that Widow and Mockingbird have always been SHEILD agents. I'm actually stoked to read a SHEILD book starring these two ladies! My favorite Widow stories have always had her acting more the secret agent than the superhero.
So, if anything, it's a return to form for these two. :D

I ignore 99% of it and read the characters/book(s) I like - it takes a lot of specifics for me to read any team book for more than a couple of issues. Despite my fondness for Doctor Strange and Namor, Hickman lost me as of issue 5 of NA. So I'm down to one $2.99 title: my budget sure isn't complaining. As long as Marvel publishes something I enjoy, I will keep buying.
Wake me up when it's over...
Adults struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life when the answer is obvious to the smallest child: because it's not real. - Grant Morrison
I have no idea where people are getting the idea that Secret Avengers is just a SHIELD book.
Hawkeye: Has been on pretty much every Avengers team
Black Widow: Has been on most teams, worked with SHIELD
Iron Patriot (if it's Rhodey in the suit): West Coast Avengers, not sure about other ones.
Mockingbird: West Coast Avenger, New Avenger, worked for SHIELD
Taskmaster: Tends to be hired by anyone with money, worked for SHIELD
Hulk: Initially a founding member of the Avengers
Hill, Quake, Fury Jr, Coulson: SHIELD, although Hill and Quake have worked with the Avengers.
The majority of the team at least have ties to at least one Avengers team, while four (possibly five, if Iron Patriot is Rhodey) have been fully fledged Avengers on at least one team. It's less of a SHIELD team and more of an Avengers team working with SHIELD, with the members having ties to SHIELD. Like Secret Agent Avengers. Secret Avengers.
Sure. I'm not saying that there aren't plenty of ideas left for Thor, or any other character for that matter. I'm just saying that the more books he is in, and the more writers that are handling him, the quicker they may burn through those ideas, and the murkier the continuity becomes. Now personally, continuity only matter so much to me...I like the broad strokes to make sense and I disregard the minor details. But I know that for others, continuity is a primary concern. So the more writers using a character, and the more often he appears in different series and ways, the more chance of conflicting continuity.
Yeah, it's all opinion. I don't mind the number of Avenger books, but I only read a few. I'd also like to see them do something a little different than another superhero team, you know? Marvel has a ton of properties that could work in a variety of ways. So to me, maybe having 3 or 4 Avengers books and then trying something totally different with another property would help diversify things a bit.
I mean, 7 different takes on the Avengers concept is diverse to an extent...but when you boil it down, it's still the concept of the Avengers, you know?
Well, all the superhero characters scheduled to appear have been Avengers, so it makes sense. It's how they are juxtaposed with the SHIELD crew that is going to be one of the focus points for that book...the superheroes being compromised by the spies. At least, that's how issue 1 seemed. It might be a cool concept....I'm on the fence about continuing with that book, though. It was well done...but I jus don't know if I need to be spending more money on yet another form of Avengers book, you know?
The difference is the team is operating as a unit of SHIELD not as an extension of the Avengers. THey are using Avengers but the name is on the book only to pump sales. It is hardly a major sin but I do find it a little annoying. I doubt I will be getting it either way unless Nick Sr. wa on board.
