John has a sort of luck field/aura when it comes to games of chance and being where he needs to be when he's needed. Something akin to the Knights in Dresden just not with the divine implication behind it. He's liable to try sleight of hand tricks or even work a mind whammy if real desperate and he sees an opening.
I suppose it also depends on whats at stake. I don't see Constantine too concered if it was just for fun. Anything else he'll work for the win no matter the cost or consequeces..of which,save for lately, usually its those around him that pay the piper.
