for the record im fine with sonja having different outfits, as long as every once in awhile she goes back to the bikini, i really liked her blue werewolf fur vest outfit.

I've gotten some Red Sonja comics in my day, but I'll kinda fess up and admit it honestly has somewhat mostly to do with me just being a letch (though I do find Mel Rubi a rather nice illustrator). I've just never been able to invest in the character or book for any real length of time. Fortunately, that looks to change.


Plus hey, it's Gail Simone on something-- anything-- that's beyond the reach of DC's present funsuckers.

As Gail sez:

"I think we're a little hyper-focused on the bikini -- she wears it because she likes it, it's formal gowns that make her feel uncomfortable!"

Thank, you Gail. Should every woman in comics be wearing a metal bikini? Of course they shouldn't. Should Red Sonja wear one? Of course she should. It's downright iconic, and while that word gets thrown out alot, it definitely applies here.

I'm looking forward to this.

Well count this reader aboard to give it a try! I'll be curious to see the differentiation in storytelling as Batgirl is a bit of a tentative and compassionate character, and I'll enjoy seeing Gail flip the script with a red head known for being forceful and bloody savage when the call needs it! I'm writing this down so I don't forget to add it for my pull list this summer!

Simones hit or miss with me but its cool to see her so enthusiastic about a project.
Red Sonjas a series ive meant to check out at some point for a while now so i may just use this as a jump on point as see whats what.

My familiarity with this character begins and ends with that ridiculous Bridgette Nielsen film, but I love Simone, and her enthusiasm is contagious.

This is awesome news! I love Red Sonja and I love Gail. So it's a win win.

I will admit that it's frustrating that so many just write the books off without even reading them. Queen Sonja and Red Sonja have been some pretty solid, fantasy comics for years now and have not rested on Sonja's sex appeal. Glad to see Gail shout out those creators before her who have also been cranking out good story.

You realize that she didn't have that bikini at first, right? She wore a chainmail top more akin to the image you posted before the bikini.
