From Millionaire to Billionaire?

In the original Golden Age stories, Bruce Wayne is referred to as a "millionaire playboy." In recent comics, it seems his wealth has grown exponentially into the billions.

When was the first time Bruce was referred to as a Billionaire with a B?

Inflation. In the 40s and 50s millions sufficed to explain his tech and equitment. Plus the social standing of millionares was higher because there weren;t many people richer. Now the tech is far more advanced, the dollar doesn't go anywhere near as far, and to be the biggest playboy with huge influence in a major metropilitan city millions doesn't quite cut it anymore.

We wouldn't want to give all the real-life millionaires the illusion that they can become Batman.

Billionaires, though, should really give it a go...

Some time in the late 90s. Before then Denny O'Neill said Bruce was about as rich as Roy Disney who was worth about $800 million at the time.

(These days, I think Bruce Wayne should be a multi-billionaire, but the (undisclosed) combined assets of Batman, Inc etc should be over a trillion...without including the rich folk (I'm of the view that Bruce has probably reverse-engineered quite a bit of tech over the years but had them patented under other identities (some coming under the WayneTech umbrella) and so has a number of (reclusive) 'multi-billionaire' identities tucked away)

They did make a small joke about the millionaire/billionaire thing in the opening credits of Batman: Arkham Asylum, where Vicky Vale calls Bruce a millionaire only to be corrected by Bruces passing by, making it sound like it was just a fashion statement.
