Can't wait for the new writers on the GL books!
So excited about this whole new direction, this is the kind of revitalization the franchise needed.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
Fialkov is really intriguing me with Red Lanterns. Not a book I thought I would be interested in, but his pitch so far has been great.
I am way to broke to be brought back into the GL fold, but this sounds to good to pass up.
I'm optimistic.
I don't love that Venditti's rhetoric feels very beholden to what came before -- regardless of my feelings on any particular run, what I really want is for each writer to put their stamp on their respective books. I don't want just a "Green Lantern" story, I want an authorial voice, and I hope Venditti doesn't let fidelity subsume idiosyncrasy. I sort of feel like "X-O" has been very by the numbers thus far, doing what needs to be done in a way that's palatable to as many as possible, but Venditti himself hasn't come through as much. Here's hoping he stretches a bit. Lets do something deeply characterful and yet on a massive scale, as is only appropriate.
Hopefully these 'fundamental questions' he's asking lead to some interesting answers; what's the very nature of the ring, itself? Not just the emotional spectrum, but what does it mean to be limited by will? To be connected to this universal cosmic energy flow? How might one stretch the boundaries of what is possible with the ring?
Fialkov sounds like he's really going to 'own' his work, and I'm excited for that. I'll be curious to see how it all comes out.

I wish Venditti had brought a bit more to the interview, considering he's technically the headliner. Fialkov's enthusiasm pretty much jumped off the page, Venditti? Not so much.
Agreed. Not necessarily an ill omen -- read a Peter Milligan interview and tell me you're excited after, I DARE YOU -- but it's hard to get a bead on it.
I've been aggressively pushing an agenda via twitter, recommending that he read New Frontier or just randomly tweeting thoughts in hopes that some of it sticks. We'll see!
He certainly hasn't said anything overtly WRONG, at least, and I do like the idea of someone coming to it with little/no background with the characters. That, to me, indicates a greater push forward rather than look back.

Fialkov's books actually sound really interesting, I think I'll have to check'em out.
Yeah, my main issue is that when talking about GL comics he didn't reference anything that stuck out to him. The way he said it was like he had completed an assignment for a job. And I mean yeah that's what it is, but when your homework is "read a bunch of GL comics" it shouldn't sound like something you did because you had to.
I agree with you there. There's definitely a fair share of GL concepts that we kind of just take for granted, and done right that could be worth exploring. He certainly hasn't said anything overtly WRONG, at least, and I do like the idea of someone coming to it with little/no background with the characters. Most of all I just want to hear more regarding Hal as a character. As you said, just reading New Frontier and acknowledging how perfect Hal is there would be a nice step in letting me know he "gets it".
Fialkov is whispering sweet love into my ears and I haven't really ever read the Green Lantern comics.
I'm less worried about that - Hickman did the same before his Fantastic Four book - and more worried about the fact that there was nothing of substance said, there.
Not necessarily "we're using this villain and this villain and this one" but more, what philosophy are you bringing to the book? There was a little of it, but not quite enough.
Exactly. I don't want anyone writing this book to be beholden to anything specifically that came before, but it would be helpful if they were informed a little by it - either recognizing where past stuff failed or where it succeeded.I agree with you there. Venditti probably did'nt want to reveal everything about what he wanted to do, but I have confidence that he will do a good job since most authors seem to be really excited about his take on the franchise and, based on the strenght of his work on Demon Knights, I would say that both his writing and characterization are top notch.
Plus, I like that he does'nt have a particular love for any story or character in special since that means that he will be able to push the title into a new territory instead of depending on past stories or overglorification of characters.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
I agree it's more than likely he didn't want to reveal the details of whatever he pitched to DC to get the book.
