The story falls apart for me because Otto can't succeed, regardless of what he does. He murdered Peter, and the only way to become a better person is to confess it and let justice take its course. That wouldn't make much of a story though, so instead he'll just act like by being more effective in the Spider-Man role, he is somehow atoning for his crimes. Which is nonsense and would only make sense to someone as crazy as Otto is. So while it's fun to watch his antics, like freaking out over the lack of a doctorate, he's not going to make any meaningful changes until he gives up the very thing the story is based on, being Spider-Man.

Maybe Otto will be moved to "come clean" at some point. That actually would be interesting as he'd have to weigh the emotional toll the truth would take on Peter's loved ones, like Aunt May, who Otto has his own sense of affection for. There's really nothing about this scenario that doesn't present dramatic possibilities. As for whether Otto can ever succeed, all that matters to him is his own measurement of success. How far he'll go to acheive his goals is what's interesting - not any kind of pat moral comeuppance.

Agreed with Chakal. I love the new Spider-man. Otto is doing things Pete never dreamed of and it'll be a shame when Pete eventually comes back all these new gadgets will "disappear". I don't know if I totally agree with Pete not being around in any kind of capacity, but I definetly want Otto in the suit for at least 60-80 issues. Even more if Slott is allowed.

The preview to the Age of Ultron really set me off. I can't tell you how excited I was that Otto was working on doing something to stop Ultron and had his Spiderbots already assimilating not to mention the kung-fu. Peter would've ran away from this situation entirely, but Otto isn't doing that. Hes Superior and already living up to that name by standing his ground and matching wits with the robot abomination. I love the spider-man that finally doesn't get his butt handed to him and he runs away licking his wounds. Otto is just all kinds of fun right now.

Ock has what it takes to be the greatest spiderman... he doesn't take shit from people so he gets respect hes smarter than Peter so he finds better ways to handle the situations ect...

Didn't Otto try to run away from Boomerang and his gang of D-listers in issue #1? And judging by the preview for Age of Ultron #1 it looks like SpOck and (the Owl?) tried to cowardly pay Ultron off instead of fighting against him.

Octavis isn't even cool or funny, he's very bland as a dynamic character, being a dick to everyone. Spidey was a dick to once, yet he was popping off quips and talking trash. Being the troll he is, he always kept everyone on thier toes because he was quirky like that.

Would have run away licking his wounds? Have we forgotten the complete and utter display of heroism that Peter showed last summer in AvX where he sealed himself alone in a Limbo prison with not just one but 2 Phoenix powered X-Men despite knowing they were completely out of his league in power all to help his friends escape? If we put Spock in that same situation, I guarantee it would have gone differently.

I would actually be upset at Peter if he doesn't learn anything from this experience. Ock maybe a villain at heart but he IS doing some things as a hero I think Peter should take note of, mainly how to balance hero/normal life. I mean even frickin' Ock had the decency to visit Aunt May in the hospital for a few minutes.
I'm actually hoping Peter won't be back for at LEAST 2 years (at least we have ghost Peter in the meantime) but I think when he does he can actually come back to be a truly Superior Spider Man.

Somewhere on this thread someone mentioned there being no humor in this book which is ridiculous! I've had some great laughs so far. I love how Ock reacted when he found out Peter never got his PhD. I guess he reeeeally loves having Doctor in his name.
