How closely linked is the series to the show? I might get it because I love the series and how close does it link with the show?

It's written as a companion to the TV show. For example, a comic story told how Walter found the remains of Robert Queen's wrecked ship.
I haven't read past issue 1, though, so I don't know how well it really aligns with the show.Free your soul and let it fly....
