    Default REVIEW: Nova #1

"Nova" #1 has Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness introduce both an older Nova Corps member and his (presumed) heir apparent, but while it looks great, it's also a little slow-paced.

I think the problem is, actually, that they hired Loeb for a high-profile comic. The man should actually be unemployable in the industry at this point.

I agree with the review that this issue was a bit too slow paced. Other than seeing him in avx though, i am unfamiliar with nova and the nova corps. Even with the slow pace, i thought it was a good issue. Yea things dont really get going yet but i thought Loeb did a good job setting up these characters. The ending wasnt unexpected or mind blowung, but it left me wanting more.

I believe this is the first ive seen of McGuiness's art, but wow im loving it.

For someone unfamiliar with Nova, I would say this is an excellent opening issue.

I really enjoyed this issue quite a bit. I thought the art was especially strong, and it fit the world well. I really hope Marvel keeps this creative team around for a while, and that they don't switch artists after 5-6 issues, as is their industry habit. Keep this team together!

I am absolutely stunned a Marvel comic got less than four stars on CBR!

    Your kidding right?

But to go along with discussion, the art was awesome but there really just wasn't enough Nova for a Nova comic. And the problems with continuity but I'll just ignore those and continue on in blissful ignorance.

I'm thinking we'll get a fill-in after the first arc, but hopefully it's someone along the lines of Michael Ryan. McGuinness should be back after that, since the book is probably selling more on his name than Loeb's.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

Oh, wow, the first piece of dialogue in a new Nova comic by Loeb is a father talking to his son, Sam, about memories he wants to share with him, only to be cut off.

    SUBTEXT I GUESS

(I mean, the comic's actually pretty decent, easily the best thing I've read from him in absolutely ages, but WOW, RIGHT out of the gate with this inescapable shadow that is cast over all his work of the last decade.)

No offense, but when are people going to start realizing and understanding the difference between "your" and "you're"? These are completely different words and its disturbing that so many people on the internet don't seem to know this.

RE: Nova 1: I think that slow setups are not a bad things, especially in this day and age, when reading a comic can take 5 minutes because there is so little writing. A good build up is often essential to a good story. The constant demand for stimulation and "action" makes it seem like many readers have some form of ADD.
