Kara is not a hero yet,we are watching her journey to become a hero.
Dr. Xa-Du aka the phantom king was the 1st guy put in the zone by Jor-el himself. Also I should note that the zone works a lot differently than before and people cant really get out that as they did before and there are a new set of rules to the zone too.

I agree with the Supergirl thing.

I don't know if you've been following her series since #1, but I think Johnson and Green have been doing an excellent job. At the start of this crossover, she's only been on Earth for a few weeks. She just woke up on a strange planet with incredible powers she doesn't understand and she's been relentlessly hounded and pursued from the very first minute. Her home was destroyed and everyone she knew and loved is dead. She has plenty of good reasons to distrust Superman: he went from being her baby cousin to a grown man in the blink of an eye, he hides his Kryptonian heritage, and he doesn't even sound right when he speaks to her because he only learned her language in a book (or crystal, whatever). She's a scared, lonely, alien outcast, and I'm both surprised and impressed that they've taken the time to develop that instead of focusing on stories about shopping and dating and how she hates to fight because she might break a nail.

Consider also, that just a few days after waking up in this nightmare, H'El arrives and tells her, "We can go home again. We can save your parents, your friends, your home." He shares her memories, her language, her love of Krypton. Why wouldn't she side with him? It's a shame that the crossover has stretched on to the point that she looks like a fool for continuing to go along with him, but really...we as readers know who the good guys and bad guys are, but Kara's been acting in perfectly understandable character the entire time.

A lot of people have complained that Kara isn't acting heroic, but stephens2177 is correct: she's not a hero yet. This crossover is a necessary (albeit unnecessarily protracted) step towards her accepting that Krypton is gone and Earth is her new home. I would much rather enjoy the character arc that takes her to the point of being a hero rather than just cut to the chase and end up with another cookie-cutter Superman Jr.

I'll gladly second that. Never picked her title up before the H'El crossover and I kinda wish I did. I'm caught up now and you're post covers what it is that I like about her so much, the fact that she isn't a cookie cutter carbon copy doing what's right just because.

I don't even mind if she doesn't get to that point again like before.
    Proof is imminent...

Damn, that was a dominant post, Volkditty! Agreed with every syllable of that quoted post.
