I had high hopes for this show, given the cast, but was ultimately underwhelmed. I think I'm in the minority in that I didn't enjoy the acting in the episode at all; I don't think that either of the main leads conveyed the intelligence that their characters were supposed to have. I couldn't buy Will ability to solve crimes the way he does because some of it just seems too far fetched. I see this sort of thing on Sherlock and Dexter and on both of those shows, the writing conveys a logic to the deduction that isn't on Hannibal. If the interesting bits about Hannibal Lecter are his interactions with Clarice or Will, I can't say I found that only scene, in which we had that one-on-one interaction, to be interesting in the least. I didn't find either of them that interesting. I am willing to forgive some of this as it was the pilot and I still have high hopes for the show but I'm not sure if this is one I'll watch past the first three episodes.

I thought the show was pretty well cast. I particularly enjoyed seeing Scott Thompson from The Kids in the Hall. I hope he plays a reoccurring character. Looks like Gillian Anderson and Eddie Izzard will also make appearances this season.

It's hard to imagine a tv actor who would say no to that awesome premise, hope it lives up to it.

That preview for the upcoming episodes was really well done. I'm pretty sure it was using the music from the Alien & Prometheus trailers, or at least a very close sound-alike.

I'm currently watching Red Dragon, this show made want to, and I just loved the relationship between Graham and Lecter. Clarice and Lecter, you can tell that one has supreme dominance over the other, she wasn't ready for him and he loved her for it, With Graham you can tell that they just hate each other. Every word they say is just dripping with polite contempt, The fact that Will can stand toe to toe against him just angers Lecter and Will can see through Lecter's mask of sanity and is just disgusted by him. It's just awesome and this series is sort of one my dream shows, and maybe I was too tough on it too fast. After I'm done with this movie, I'll give it another try. Seeing this in TV tropes was encouraging as well:

According to early interviews, Fuller has roughed out several years worth of plot, calling season one the "bromance" between Lecter and Graham, and season two "the ugly breakup", while season four is "basically Red Dragon".

I want to see this happening and I neet to get over the fact that my dreamed TV Show probably wont be the Be-all-end-all of Crime Dramas and enjoy it for what it is.

Casting Hugh Dancy as Will Graham really reminds me of William Petersen in Manhunter.

You should watch Manhunter, it's much better, although the ending isn't great.

Can this show be called "Mads Mickelson Eats"?

He just makes everything look good, it made me hungry. I wasn't completely won over by the pilot, but I'm going to check out the next episode.

I've seen it, I love it but I like Red Dragon better, Manhunter is a real close second but the Dolarhyde scenes (plus the bonus that was it's first scene) give Red Dragon the lead, IMO.

The Dolarhyde stuff in Manhunter is some much better than Red Dragon, Tom Noonan is way better in that role than Ralph Fiennes. Do you mean the first scene with Dolarhyde, or the first scene of the movie? Because while it's cool getting to see that, I think Graham telling his son about it is one of the best scenes in Manhunter. If you're talking about the first scene with Dolarhyde, I don't even remember what that is.

This show combines ominous and psychedelic pretty well. The gore in this episode was phenomenal. Does anyone know who's in charge of special effects make-ups for this show? I like how eerie and creepy they were able to make a room full of antlers. I especially love the panning out shot that reveals the mushroom garden with the hands sticking up out of the ground. The shot where the CSI woman peels the skin of the corpses face to reveal its bare teeth was gruesome. The concept for this week's "serial killer of the week" was interesting but I found the actor's execution of the role lacking.

Will Graham was a homicide detective before becoming a criminal profiler. I recommend reading Red Dragon as it better establishes his back story.

The guy who plays Hannibal has none of Hopkins' menace. He's sucking the life out of this show with his blandness. Pity.

I was worried this show would quickly turn into a serial killer of the week show. Looks like they might avoid that trope. Feels like the will go more of the Dexter route. This episode wasn't great but is moves the plot along. It mostly deals with the aftermath from the last episode. This week we start to see Hannibal Lector for what he really is. Mads Mikkelsen comes off a little flat as Hannibal Lector but I don't think it's a terrible portrayal of the character. The preview for next week looks good.

I usualy like Madds but yea people forget that as good as Hopkins is as an actor, his acting style in playing Hannibal had a lot of fun camp to it.

I think people also forget that the way Hopkins played him only really worked in The Silence of the Lambs. The Silence of the Lambs had a whole different style than this show, or any of the other movies had.
