Sigh.
It's really hard to love comics without financially supporting bastards.

We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.

Doesn't shock me Disney is at all like that.

Disney has a lot to be ashamed of. Disneyland Mascots have problems too..

Blacks and Whites both accuse Disneyland of racism
Mickey and his pals have some explaining to do. After going public last week with a discrimination lawsuit he’s waging against Disneyland, a California attorney says he’s hearing all sorts of allegations about employees of the amusement park.
Since announcing earlier this month that he’d be representing a case that’s accusing Disney staffers of racism, attorney Dan Gilleon has had his phone ringing off the hook.
"I've gotten many emails and voicemails that I'm looking into. What this tells me is this isn't an isolated incident," Gilleon tells San Diego's ABC 10 News.
Gilleon made it to the papers earlier this month when he announced that he’d be representing the family of Jason Black Jr., a 6-year-old African-American boy who says he was discriminated against by a Disneyland employee dressed as the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. The Blacks were at the Orange County amusement park in August when Jason Jr. allegedly was refused a hug by an actor hired to play the rabbit.
“The rabbit was turning his back on me. Then I went up to try to hold his hand, but he kept on flicking my hand off,” Jason’s brother, Elijan, told KTLA News.
“There were two other kids that camp up, and the rabbit showered them…hugged them, kissed them, posed with them and took pictures,” the boys’ father recalls. “Meanwhile, that made my kids feel horrible.”

Not to say that thing in Disneyland didn't happen, but I don't think I've seen the characters just roaming around for photo opertunities at either park in a looong time. Now a days you have to stand in line at specific areas and wait your turn to interact with the characters in a similar fashion to waiting to have your picture taken with Santa at the mall so it seems a little suspicious to me.
Poor Don - he just had eye surgery in the last few days, too: another retina detachment in the same eye, but apparently recovery will be easier this time around.
I hope that Fantagraphics starts a 'Complete Don Rosa' series and gets Don's involvement (so's he can get a paycheck from it).
I'm not sure why people are surprised by this stuff. Very few businesses reach major levels of success without a fair amount of vicious backroom/boardroom behavior. And if the business becomes sucessfull enough and sticks around long enough, that kind of thing has a tendency to trickle down. Empires (even corporate ones) are rarely built on handshakes and smiles.
I understand wanting to play with characters you loved as a kid, but if you need the $, just bite the bullet and write a new creator owned character. You might be surprised at how much you like it. It's worked out for plenty of others. Kirkman did Marvel Zombies along with his indie books, Morrison was writing JLA and Invisibles at the same time...you don't have to give your faves up.
