Before that he was all about bringing in new concepts, but that was him surrendering to the cycles of the x stories.

Besides Morrison limited imagination? The characters and concepts that guy introduced still drive xmen stories to this day. Especially in the villain department. The well of x villains had run pretty dry before him.
Remind us again... How much of Morrison's arc has been retconned?

I'd almost be glad for the Phoenix to be permanently gone so that Marvel couldn't dry hump that mythos any longer, but it will be back. They will drag it kicking and screaming back because, if nothing else, it looks cool in print.

If I have to explain it to you -- I'll be here all day... Suffice to say a good portion of his creativity was editorially and publically retconned.

and yet here we are with Fantomex having just wrapped a large part in one of the most highly regarded X-Book runs of the last 20 years, Quentin Quire practically headlining WATXM, Sublime coming back in a big way, folks still citing Xorneto's destruction of Manhattan as a call-to-arms against mutants, and Jean Grey still being dead as a doornail...while Colossus, Psylocke, Doug Ramsey, Forge, Joseph, Cable, Nate Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth, Magik, Ariel, Daken, Gateway, Warlock, Legion, etc. etc. have all returned from the dead since Jean died (even though some of them died AFTER her, too!)

That's where teenage Jean Grey comes in... Or, Hope... Or, even Rachel. So, I'm more than good with the current status quo. Where are the Shi'ar when you need them?

I seriously doubt Brevoort ever read a single issue of Excalibur. So I would consider anything in that book abandoned to the void. They've erased almost all of Morrison's New X-Men influence and they still reprint his run in paperbacks and Omnibuses. Excalibur may as well not exist as far as Marvel is concerned.
Well Rachel did mention she was the Phoenix before when fighting Thor so I don't know. Avx was such a mess.

Not an unreasonable question to ask. That dream she had in All New X-men #6 indicated that the Phoenix Force still has a connection to her. And if it manifests, I can't imagine too many would be happy to see the Phoenix again after what it did in Avengers vs. X-men. Wolverine has shown a willingness to kill Jean before when the Phoenix is rising. He did it in Phoenix Endsong and in Planet X. I imagine it would be harder for him with O5 Jean, but it may be necessary. That said, I don't see this happening anytime soon. It's too soon after the most recent Phoenix story. I don't think Marvel will tell story about that until after the O5 have had some time to go through a few other stories in the present. But in a year or so, I think it could become an issue.
