Sentry Thoughts?

If they did bring Sentry back as a conventional hero, I'm not sure how long they could do the de-construction of silver age/bronze age comics after already making that point. However, I think it might interesting to do what Jim starling did in the 70's with Capatian Marvel and Warlock...use the Void/Sentry split to explore psychological and metaphysical issues. And draw Ditko inspired backgrounds (smiley face).

That would likely be the best angle. Keep him out of any teams too, unless the writer has a Hickman or Morrison big concept high sci fi style.

The idea of the arch nemesis being a dark psychological split is just pure genius, and provides such endless potential, as does the Sentry's power level. In the right situation of course.

Whatever, but if Sentry returns, he should at least become a full-blown Supervillain.
Having him anywhere near heroes territory would be a big, fat joke after Dark Reign.

It's not just about being too powerfull.
It is the HOW the Sentry got so powerfull that's stupid.

The same serum that created freakin' streetlevel-heroes should be strong enough to beat the fuckin' Molecule Man?

Why not? It's superhero comics. You can't apply real world logic to any of this.

Spider-Man got bit by a radioactive spider then developed spider powers. Deadpool was injected with Wolverines DNA and develops an even more powerful healing factor. How are those things more acceptable than what happened to Sentry? Because Sentry can blow up planets? Just ignore the powers. Superpowers don't tell stories, the characters, the people that have the superpowers, they are where the story potential comes from.

And the potential for story telling it brings is interesting. How does an average man, who is pretty flawed, react to the revelation that he has the power of a God? It could have made for interesting story telling in the hands of a writer who gets that sort of stuff. Unfortunately, Brian Bendis doesn't get that sort of stuff.

So u wud b soooo kewl with Cap suddenly possessing d capability of flight & THING-like strength as canon if sum writer said dat during d whole time Caps serum had been slowly evolving within him & dat process is wat has kept him alive all dis time, d process is den said 2 hv startd when Cap was in 'stasis'/ice whr his mind & body was dormant 4 a long period of time thus allowing d serum 2 evolve without any conflicting demands frm Cap's usual supa-soldier activities.

And now in 2013 d serum evolving process has finally surpassd its initial chemical sequencing code 2 mk Cap much mo superhuman with flight, superspeed, superstrength, slight control over atomic particles, supahearing(can hear butterfly wings in China frm d US), invulnerability/durability, telescopic & micropic vision.

Dats wud b sooooooo keewwwl & awwwwwesome, wudnt it?

And d best part is dat it fits right in2 Cap's canon & continuity.

Yeah it is comics, but even within comics there should at least be a little consistency.

For the sentry to survive as a character he would have to leave earth and join the cosmic cast. A being of his limitless potential really doesn't have a place on earth.

Never liked the character. In World War Hulk it should have been Thor that went toe to toe with The Hulk. Not a 10th rate Captain (Shazam) Marvel.

- Rogue and Sentry had sex. What, what, WHAT? My friend EruditeChick over at All Things Fangirl has more of a right to an angry reaction to this, and her post about the subject says everything.

- Tony Stark blathering on about how much of a role Bob played in helping him during his alcoholism days. First of all, I object to Tony calling himself “a drunk” – it just seems the kind of term someone would use for a current alcoholic or someone who’s recently given up drinking, not a recovered alcoholic who’s been sober for years and years. Come on. Second…how is taking what has to be one of the most important arcs to Tony Stark as a character and just inserting Bob in there willy-nilly respectful? I know retconning someone like Sentry into the universe will have its share of friction, but this is just way, way too much.

- Ben Grimm hated Sentry for being a better man than he was? Come on. Comethefuck ON, Jenkins. I can’t even dignify this stupidity with – just – AUGH.

That's where being a writer comes in. Bendis has been the company golden boy for some time, and he's used tons of interesting characters ....because they were interesting, not because he had any real skill in writing or improving them. His grasp on the Sentry concept was big, vague, and stupid, which is why it eventually burned itself out. And because the golden boy couldn't make it work, the idea is now lost "forever." People are saying good riddance to characters like Sentry and Moon Knight even though they were fine aside from Bendis.

X-Men Legacy is awesome. It would have been great to have Kid Loki, Legion, Zodiac, and a well done Sentry at the same time. We could have had this big thing where Marvel superheroes went beyond pumped up WWE plots.

No matter how much history they make up for the Sentry in the Marvel Universe’s timeline, it’s history with the reader that counts. All the retcons have a faint stench of desperation to them, a feeling that they can compensate for lack of depth with an increase in volume. There’s no history between the Hulk and the Sentry? Howabout we just have everyone talk about how they’re the bestest friends ever! The Sentry’s never really achieved any kind of heroic triumphs? Howabout we have everyone remind each other about how he saved the world over and over and over again! The more they talk about how great he is, the more it reminds us that we haven’t seen any actual evidence of that supposed greatness, and the more hollow and useless he seems. Until at the end, we get a funeral scene filled with characters telling us how much he changed their lives forever with his brilliance and awesomeness…only to never ever ever mention him again the second the dirt is heaped on his grave.

the Sentry was an underrated character with a lot of things going for him..

He was a junky Superman, how can it possibly get and more intriguing than that.

And he was awesome in Dark Avengers.
