It's not necessary for him to need Peter's body to evolve into something better... There are other ways to do it...
It'd be kind of out there to see the House of Ideas experiment with the fans adjusting to this almost subconsciously. Like, go a coupla months where there is no reference to the body swap.
Heh, now watch it turn out that we were all over thinking this. Maybe Ock just decides to stop putting on the Spidey suit on his own, like all those stories where Peter does the same thing cause he can't take the pressure. Then we'd get to see a classic spider-man story through the eyes of a sociopath.
I think the Jackal's involvement in the storyline will ultimately lead to Otto getting himself a cloned body and coming to terms with Spider-Man. I think, at that point, Otto will likely be played out as a villain for the time being and can go off to do other things for a while. He'll eventually return to his roots -- this being comics and all -- but for a while he can do something different while other villains take the spotllight. I do imagine he'll be Spider-Man for a good long while, though, and 'Superior No More' doesn't mean the end of Otto Octavius as Spider-Man unless we're gonna get a full on 'Reign of the Spider-Men' with Otto as the Cyborg. :P
But all this is just idle speculatuon. FUN idle speculation, but idle speculation none the less.

I'm all for Otto growing and changing, but he doesn't need a long journey in Peter's body to do it...
not only is Marvel already showing something is different about Spider-Man, they are flat-out saying it is Ock.
Its far to soon for the end game, but if it was I would love for it to go something like this.
Ock figures out Peter is in his head and holding him back from being the Superior Spider-man he wants to be. They battle with Ock thinking he has won. But Peter has found a way to transfer his mind into the Living Brain. He hides out there while trying to figure out how he can restore his mind into his body. Ock would invent something dangerous as Peter Parker which would force Peter as the Living Brain to take action. He would then break out of Horizon Labs and seek out Carlie. Ock discovers this and goes to Carlie to stop him and her from exposing his secret.
In their battle Ock would accidentally kill Carlie and he would then start to destroy the Living Brain when the Green Goblin shows up and defeats Spock, just as he is about to kill Spider-man, Peter tells Norman what happens and in Norman twisted his mind his victory over Spock is shallow and no one, but him can best Spider-man so he helps Peter get his body back. But Osborn warns Peter he knows who he is again and the he is only letting Peter leave because he has something more fun for him and his loved ones.
The story ends with Norman knowing Peter is Spider-man again, Ock stuck in the Living Brain and Carlie dead.
McKenstry those with the most opinions often have the fewest facts.

You gonna get us out of here. With that tight-ass Wolverine outfit on. Now, let's make it happen, asshole
YOST: Okay, it's not Jean Grey. Nobody likes her
Kaine dies and Peter takes control of that body, it'll be a clone of Peter with Peter's original minds vs Peter's original body with Octaviu's mind!
