    Let's see:

Most tragic: Silver Surfer, Adam Warlock

Honorable Mentions: Loki, Doom, Strange, Punisher, Magneto, Galactus, several mutants,

People who think they're in this category: Spidey, other emo heroes, a big fat chunk of mutants who haven't really suffered as much as they think they have

Possibly soon to be in this category: All of Illuminati save Cap

If you don't mind, could you expand on your choice of Galactus? His story interests me and I'd be interested to read how you think he's tragic.

The part where he sees everything in his universe die, yet has to keep on going? And then has to go on and cause suffering in the new universe? That's pretty brutal.

There's also his whole "last of my kind" thing he has going on as well. He's the only one from the previous universe, isn't he?

    1) Wolverine by far. I'm not sure how there's any other #1 answer for this. Outside of anything else, he's a mutant, so the world in general hates and fears him just because he's different. Now take these things into account: When he was younger, his birth father killed his adopted father, then little Logan accidentally kills his birth father when his powers manifest. Then his mother kills herself and his grandfather disowns him. Then later in life, he's brain-washed and mind-raped so many times that he can't remember who he is...and everyone he's ever loved was killed as a way to control him. The worst example of this is when his pregnant fiance was killed and his son was taken and raised by his mortal enemy to hate him. Then he eventually is tricked into killing all of his bastard children by his evil son...who he eventually has to drown to keep him from killing his students. Now throw in all of the times where he's been turned into a killer and was forced to kill people against his will, and all of the times that he's been tortured...including the times where he was crucified and had the adamantium ripped from his bones. He was also sent to hell. Oh and every day he has to fight to maintain control over the beast inside of him. I don't think there's a more tragic character in all of comic books. It's not even close in my opinion.

    2) The Hulk

    3) Daredevil

    4) Spider-Man

    5) Bucky Barnes or the Silver Surfer

The Hulk and Banner willingly work for and are admired by SHIELD, so I don't think they could be considered tragic anymore.
