Default The Shadow: Year One, #1

THE SHADOW is a character that has lasted through decades on the pages of pulp magazines, over the radio airwaves, thru the silver screen, and in the panels of comic books. Shrouded in mystery, his origins have been explored and hinted at over the years...but never fully revealed. Much is known of Kent Allard/Lamont Cranston's years spent in the Orient and Central America-wherein he gains his powers and purpose...but not how he first developed his persona as the Master of Darkness. Eisner Award-winning author, Matt Wagner is joined by artist Wilfredo Torres in an exhilarating limited series that will explore the dynamic events that first drew Cranston back to the States, how he first met his companion and lover, Margo Lane, how he began to assemble his vast network of agents and how he first adopted the famous black hat and cloak as his alter-ego's disguise-all secrets that, up until now...only The Shadow knew

Can't say that I'm impressed by the artwork, but I'm eager to see what Matt Wagner does with this. It'll definitely be better than the hideous mess Garth Ennis turned in.

Dull idea but Wagner should write this quite well.

I agree completely with you. The art looks really bad on this, but looking forward to Wagner's story. And I was surprised Ennis's story was so bad as well, but I have really liked Gischler's issues better.

Great storytelling showing how The Shadow literally became The Shadow, this is exactly what I wanted to see happen and I finally got it! The art was so-so, but man.....the story really dragged me in and I feel as if this Wagner written series is going to be every bit as good as his Green Hornet: Year One tale. All in all I loved the book, I loved seeing his make-shift outfit and his way of doing things early on, I seriously can't wait for more!

Honestly, this is the first time I've actually liked a Shadow comic since Dynamite started printing them!

I really like how people have finally taken to The Shadow, he's always been a character that I've been interested in learning more about but never gave him the chance until Dynamite started publishing him and now that I'm hooked on the Dynamite version I could care less about any past iterations of him. Dynamite has an uncanny way of making me care about characters I've never given two squirts about before, this goes for the entire Superpowers line, Kirby line, Warlord of Mars books, Tarzan, The Phantom, Green Hornet, Vampirella, and now the pulp heroes, it's really quite interesting how they have this power over me to do this.

The Shadow has been a great series and Year One is off to a huge bang, what a wonderful story this has been.
