Originally Cap was retconned to try to never take a life even as a soldier during WW2 by Mark Gruenwald iirc, to I guess make him more of a hero then a Soldier. But most would never agree to this type of Steve. As he still has the mentality of finding every way unless there is no other option. But does this type of thinking really take away his Superman analog angle?

So I guess my question is has Superman ever killed when there is no other option left?
You're Welcome. During the Golden Age I believe he did. Nazi's and such. But pretty much every hero did then. Things started to get more progressive and the idea of a moral hero who didn't kill started to come into being. Since then I can only think of the time he killed Zod, Quex-Ul, and Zaora after they killed everyone on their pocket universe Earth.
    I like swords.

Mike, the Phoenix fed off the energy of unborn life. It wasn't the source of that power, it was the tick on the back of its neck.

I guess you didn't read Excalibur or a lot of other X-books. It is the repository of that life and is a basic part of the Universes ecosystem

I wouldn't know anything about that. I haven't been reading Marvel since around the price hike.

I'm a fan of both. To me you can't have DC without Superman, or Marvel without Cap! :)

New Avengers #1-3 really highlights the similarities. Without blowing anything Captain America certainly seems to be on a morally higher ground than his contemporaries in the Marvel U, and not in a preachy way.

There's nothing anywhere that says that the Phoenix is the venue through which life is created. There's a very big two page spread from Excalibur where Galactus explains that the Phoenix feeds on unborn life, annnnd that's it. You'll note that the phoenix no longer exists in the Marvel Universe, yet life continues to be born. Funny, that.

I love Steve Rogers. I love his old theme song and the fact that when I was a kid the garbage can lids had handles that made them great "shields", but as a Canadian I can't help but cringe at American flag waving.
