    Default Team 7 #5 Discussion/Spoilers

The Majestic project is slowly being revealed.

We see some glances from the new Spartan and Ladytron and also some little hints about the future of the characters, specially Saled and the reasons behind his transformation into Deathstroke. Plus, Majestic is coming.

Okay, the new artist is a much better fit for this title, the characters are more expressive and vibrant while the action is also more detailed. Plus, it had several key characters and concepts being introduced and there was some nice glances of the future about Slade ad Lynch that plays perfectly with the current Deathtroke series.

Solid issue in summary, it's such a shame that they're just putting effort on the title when is already cancelled.

She's probably on her 20's on present time so she is most likely 17-18 on her appearance here.

I thought this was easily the best issue of the series. Jordan returned to the themes of blurring the line between technology, humanity, and superhumanity that he established in the first issue, that was unfortunately shuffled away by the out-of-place Eclipso story. The character work was way better here, and the issue was really stronger without all the generic new characters bringing it down.

I'm not a big fan of Alixe as I think his work is a little dull / drab to look at, but he excels at facial expressions, which really sold many of the conversation scenes. I'm interested to see where the Majestic Project is headed, and the inevitable battle with Spartan. Good issue, dramatic improvement over the first arc so it's unfortunate the title of course just got cancelled. Hopefully the final three issues continue what was established here.

    Team 7 #5

    Cover:

So electricity is purple. I never knew that.

    Plot:

It’s time to relax after a hectic mission last issue, but not for too long mind you. Meanwhile in the present, Deathstroke tracks down Lynch.

    Our Heroes:

    Oh Alex, never change.

    Our Villain:

Skynet rises in the DC Universe.

    Our Side Characters:

    Caitlin is certainly a badass.

    Action:

    Ah, screw you Thumper!

    Dialogue:

    Again, never change Alex.

    Art:

Hey, this is actually better than previous issues.

    Most Memorable Moment:

    Ewwww…

    Final Page:

    Cue dramatic music!

What We Should Take from This Comic:

The world keeps changing and Team 7 is truly needed to curve the rise of metahumans, as far as they know at least.

What We Do Take From This Comic:

Superpowers can really have disgusting results.

    Yay or Nay?

    yay

So in general, this is probably the best issue since 0. Figures it starts getting really good for me when it has been cancelled. However, if it keeps up this quality, it'll at least end being rather enjoyable.

    (No Spoilers)

Team 7 has been amazing these last couple of issues. Justin Jordan really hit his stride with the characters and started infusing some interesting things in the New 52's past. But rather than let the title continue with its newfound momentum, DC decides to announce its cancellation. It's unbelievable at this point but thankfully Jordan's greatness out-weighted the bad news for this issue.

Simultaneously this month, Ravagers is being cancelled. Now as much as I didn't want it to happen, with declining sales and almost a year's worth of issues, I can understand that Ravagers' cancellation ( a little). But Team 7? It just launched in Sept.'s Zero Month, just 5 months ago!!! It did have sort of a rocky start but I thought the creative team pulled it together to give us a great conclusion to the first story arc last month. So how DC can decide to cancel this great title so prematurely is beyond me.
I know one complaint people have had with the title is the lack of a consistent artist. I can see how that would annoy some people. It's one thing to have a regular artist for a few issues and then have a fill-in artist, but so far it's jumped back and forth between three artists. No offense to the artists who did work on the title so far, but I wish they would've brought on a big name artist to compliment Jordan. That probably could've saved the book.

Ok, enough of my moaning. Let's focus on this issue for a bit. I love how it jumps from the present day New 52, to fives years ago. This is a great way to start transitioning the title to present day and hopefully start answering some questions about all these characters. The solicits have let us know that Ladytron and Spartan will be showing up in this book. I love the set up for how Ladytron gets her name and it involves Caitlin Fairchild. I also love the mystery they've set up with who and what Spartan really is. There are also some really creepy elements to the story and I was surprised by some of the horror-like aspects.

The solicits have let us know that as far as Wildstorm characters, we've got Ladytron, Spartan, and Majeistc showing up in this arc. Jordan voiced his love of the original Team 7 and the Wildstorm Universe in general when he first got the book so it's no surprise that he has added so many Wildstorm characters in the book. But it seems the curse of Wildstorm continues as they keep getting their books cancelled. If you haven't read the news about Jim Starlin taking over Stormwatch, I think that book would've been on the chopping block too if not for Starlin coming on board. It's too bad they didn't make a similar concerted effort to save some of these other cancelled titles.

But much like Ravagers, the current creative team has been cranking out some great stories. Even if this is the end for this title, I know Jordan is going to end with a bang! There was so much potential with this book and I really think DC dropped the ball on this one.

Wow what a fun issue. It's a little sad that just when this title starts to really pick up they cancel it.
The one thing I thought was the best of the whole issue was the interaction between Lynch & Slade & then the shocked look on Slade's face when he finds out that Majestic is back.
The other thing is that it takes place in the present day. So that means Majestic is around and no one knows it

If this book had led with this issue as it's first issue, then it might not have gotten cancelled so very quickly. This issue was very solid and a great doorway into DC's New 52 past.
    Pull list:
Adv. Time, Avengers AI, Batgirl, Batman '66, B & R, BOP, E 2, Fearless Defenders, He-Man, JL: Dark, Katana, Shadowman, Swamp Thing, The Ultimates, Ult. Spider-Man

I was seriously considering dropping this title but if there are only 3 or 4 more issues I might check out the rest of the run.

That Eclipso story was BS. If the premise of the book was the secret history of the DCU, then you need to dive right in. You can't get X amount of issues in this market. You can't be like Jim Starlin and think you have a dozen issues to get a book in your direction. Screw editorial. Let these books breathe, let them find their voices.

Was the Doctor at the beginning supposed to be Hank Henshaw? I'm not too familiar with a lot of the Wildstorm characters, so I wasn't sure if it was an old Wildstorm character with the same last name, but if not, I'm always happy to see the Cyborg Superman put in an appearance. Also, it's shame to see this title being cancelled, it really hit it's stride this issue.

Yeah, I think it was Hank Henshaw. A "Dr. Stone" is also mentioned, which could only be Cyborg's dad so, aparently, all Cyborgs in DCNU (Henshaw and Ladytron directly, Cyborg indirectly) come from the technology of the Spartan.

Ladytron as a double reference? I did like this issue. Really intriguing stuff set-up.

I knew the guy who write Luther Strode was capable of better than what we got first four issues.

I liked the zero issue well enough, and then I heard "Eclipso". Jusrt knew it was going to go downhill from there. There hsn't been anything remotely good with Eclipso for years now, even when good writers are handling the story. :\
