    Big surprise.

Oh and way to also ignore my point about online liberalism..you know big online chat-talkers that have no minority or gay friends or interpersonal relationships.

Posters ability to bog down discussion with banal minutia is the real hypocrisy. Using your post as an example. I just talked about having real relationships and activism which you and a few wholly missed.

No offense, but your bigotry has so clearly shone through here on so many occasions that I am not buying it.

A couple of weeks ago, you posted on another thread that you don't support gay rights efforts because, in your head, teh geys don't support black rights efforts enough. Now you're trying to make us belief you threw a rock at cops at the Stonewall Riots. Yeah, right.

    My blog.

We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.

Or maybe you actually have something like this to prove your words:
A report on a gay rights protest that includes me making a statement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReL0z-2Hrwc

... something which led to actual threats against my life.

And I had African-Indian-Irish in-laws at the time, a Russian half-brother, a half-Greek niece, Spanish cousins and a Turkish best friend.

I am telling you: Mine is so much bigger than yours, I could knock you upside your head with it and give you concussion.

One of the people you're accusing on "online activism" is Pip.

Do you know what he does for a living?

It's been volunteering for the past 8 years, but with a little luck it will become my livelihood this spring.

If you're talking about in-person meetings, I'd agree. Groups of protestors however I'd believe have little to no impact on your average politician or CEO. The people who tend to participate tend to participate often and also tend to be very far from the mainstream in their views. Even with larger protests like the Million Man March or the recent Occupy protests I'd say politicians take note, but I don't believe they change positions. A good meeting with an articulate representative of a movement can change minds, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the protests to turn into a meeting (I'm sure they happen, but probably with politicians already sympathetic to the cause). I'd imagine CEOs that take note do so out of amusement.

I think some of those petitions end up being personally delivered. Best of both worlds, then.

The real key is this: politicians don't really care what "people" think or what "the public" or even what "voters" think.

They care what their constituents - the people who can vote them out of a job - think.

So, in-person delegations or letters are effective because they an be reasonably sure that they actually come from constituents.

One example... I sent a message to my State Rep. through a gay social network (he is also gay, and we have met on occasion) when the big smoking ban was to be voted on. I explained to him how I had been locked out of pretty much the entire "gay scene" in my state es every single gay bar and club between Cologne and Dortmund allowed smoking, and as a former asthmatic who still has plenty of allergies, I just cannot go there.
He told me that that one personal message did more to influence his vote than all the automated mail messages and petitions online.

To be fair I will be honest...I haven't been in marches for anything here in WV. We don't have anything like what is happening in California or elsewhere. But I will be honest and say I support gay rights. I do have some gay friends and they are as human as me or anyone else. Everyone deserves the chance to be as happy (or unhappy) in marriage as the next couple. Be it man/man , woman/woman .

I have no moral high ground whatsoever . I haven't done 1/5th of what anyone like Pip or anyone else has done. I just agreed to not buy the comics Card does to show support. Because I don't believe in Card's position. His entire deal is one I don't believe in at all. Nor the group he is over . Its the least people can do right now. If they can't do much like me here in WV.

I wash my hands of this whole discussion.
