I have searched for many old comics in the internet and found some sites that offer free reading of the online complete scans of classic comic books especially which are in the public domain. I've noticed many of the comic book concepts are not original. For example, Batman is a derivative of Zorro. Doc Savage predated Superman.
Archie Andrews is based on Andy Hardy played by Mickey Rooney.
Quality Comics have created original characters such as Plastic Man, Kid Eternity and Blackhawks.
Plastic Man is an original creation who predated Mister Fantastic and Elongated Man. How many superheroes before Plastic Man are reformed criminals?
Kid Eternity is an interesting character concept. He can summon any historical figure from the past to fight for the good.
Spider-Man (Marvel Comics) is probably the first teenage super-hero who is neither a sidekick nor transforms into a man.
Crime Does Not Pay (Lev Gleason Publications) pioneered the crime comics genre.
Tales from the Crypt (EC Comics) pioneered the horror comics genre.
What are the most original concepts of a comic book that you have seen? That which you would recommend for me to read?
