Oh no, I'm all in favour of what PupsOfWar was saying. I think the role of parenthood should be explored more in the superhero universe. I just find it ironic that he mentioned Superman and the exact plot point popped up in Injustice, but went a totally different (and incredibly dark) way

I am going to buy 5 copies just in spite of the haters.

Cannonball= Power Ranger
Captain Marvel= Onimusha?
Sunspot= some random ninja
Black Widow = some commando girl

the cover needs hyperion cosplaying goku lol.

It's More:

Spider-Woman = Sailor Moon (Check the bow)/Magical Girl
Cannonball= Sentai Hero (the design is similar to Redman or Mirrorman)
Captain Marve = Samurai Hero (the garb is veryu formal)
Sunspot= Ninja Hero (though Not Naruto, thankully)
Black Widow = Metal Hero (though the arm weapons reminds me of Zone Fighter's Meteor Attack)

I would have gone with:
Black Widow = Ninja (Go full Naruto just because)
Spider-Woman = Magical Girl (Nanhoa or Madoka style)
Cannonball= Cyborg 009
Captain Marvel= Ultraman
Sunspot = Kamen Rider

But I don't mind either way.

Like Will.S said, this isn't actually getting us anywhere and people could continually going on barking at each other over the specifics of Arena for another twenty pages or whatever. How about we all step back, breathe and go back to talking about Spock riding a Therizinosaurus huh? Never thought I'd get to see Doc Ock secretly in Spidey's body riding such an obscure but awesome dinosaur!

I think obscure but awesome prehistoric animals are getting more facetime in fiction as a whole. Primeval had dozens of them, and in Teen Titans, the first animal Beasts Boy turned into was a Gorgonopsid.

It's a good time to be a paleo nerd.

Spock and the Therizionsaur is just the icing on the cake . . .

Oh God, now I'm picturing a gag series from that (though with Star Trek's Spock instead of Marvel's).

Aw man, Primeval was so awesome (I wish they would make a new season already, though I heard there's like a Canadian version of it coming out). Yeah, I used to be a MASSIVE geek for dinosaurs, before I could even walk apparently, and I still love the critters. So yeah, Savage Land is cool with me! As long as Hyperion's a good dad and Spock is like the cranky old uncle, this looks like it will be great.

I can't tell you how glad I am to see a Shang-Chi centered story here. Actually, the solicits seems a little similar to what I've been proposing for years in various other posts. I've always wanted to see Shang, surrounded by some fine Avengers women, walking down a casino in East Asia. Master of Lady Fu if you know what I mean

Now, I do have some nitpicks. The people in Hong Kong don't go to Hong Kong casinos. They usually take the two hour ferry ride to Macau, which has a TON of opulent casinos and hotels. If you recall, Macau was featured in the latest James Bond movie, "Skyfall." It's basically the Las Vegas of East Asia.

Moreover, the cover is definitely shooting for a Japanese/Anime look, probably to gain a greater mass appeal. Now, the characters look awesome, but I kinda wince at the cover. I think the illustrator could have pulled inspiration from wuxia films like "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" or hard boiled John Woo films. Perhaps Weaver could have used some of that 1930s Chinese style that's seen in "Avatar: Korra" or the Batman Shanghai short.

Still, at the end of the day, there's a Shang-Chi story taking place in Hong Kong in the main Avengers book. That's something to be proud of. I hope my young students (many of whom are huge Avengers and Spider-Man fans) get a kick when I tell them about this.

Good point on Macau, but again, I think that both Hickman and Weaver are aware of the difference between Japan and Hong Kong. I'm guessing there's a plot reason for the Japanese outfits.
