My question is who will be Beryl's Squire. I figure it's kind of important for her to pick one promptly.

Why would that be the case? As she is new to being the hero instead of the sidekick she might have enough to think about adjusting to that, without having to worry about the training or safety of a sidekick.

I'm not saying Beryl should rush into things without finding her footing as Knight. Re-read my post. My point is that the Squire mantle is equally important. There was a Squire before there was a Knight. The Squire mantle leads directly into the Knight mantle (more so than almost any modern hero-sidekick paradigm).

A little time to mourn her loss and to get used to being the one making the decisions instead of following orders. Finding a suitable person for the role. Of course it is not quite the same as Robin dying as he was Batman's son and that would be replacing a sidekick with another sidekick, but it would still involve getting used to a new partner, building trust etc. She would need to be as sure as possible that she had chosen wisely. There is also the possibility of the return of the previous knight to consider.

Blue, it feels like you're being intentionally dense here. I'll quote myself.

Since this has never happened (and every ascended Squire/Knight has acquired a protege by the time we see them, there's no basis for this thinking. If Beryl thought Cyril had any realistic chance of coming back, she wouldn't have succeeded him.

I should have been clearer as to why I thought that she would not want to make a prompt decision, in your original post you said that she should choose a squire promptly with no more explanation than you thought it important. Perhaps it is that important and Beryl does know that, but my point was that even if that is so, she may be reluctant to make that decision quickly even if she knows that she should, for all the reasons I mentioned. People sometime make rash decisions when mourning or are reluctant to move on completely.

I can see where you thought that now. Perhaps "promptly" was the wrong word choice. I just see the Knight-Squire thing as too much of a package deal for Beryl to be flying solo for more than an arc (or two, tops). Even Mr. Unknown has some sort of sidekick now.

I am glad we sorted that out, perhaps the next storyline will be about the process of recruiting a Squire, something that has not be seen before.
