I see this as a somewhat quirky movie with lots of humor I think we have seen with the Avengers that movie audiences don't mind a superhero movie that doesn't take itself completely seriously all the time.

If you try to play this completely straight you are gonna fail in my eyes.

Hank Pym is my favorite but i don't see anything wrong with incorporating the other two Ant-men like for cameos for instance maybe if Hank is working with Shield Eric can be his assistant or something.

    Yeah I'm guessing humour.

Humor would be fantastic. Best part of Avengers (imho) was Hulk getting a grip on Loki. That scene made the entire movie for me...well worth the price of a dvd.

In fact, the lack of any humor in the Man of Steel movie trailer is what worries me about that film and I loved Superman before I even knew comic books existed. Have a feeling I won't be watching it at all. (I don't much care for Batman either. All the grimdark...ew.)
To Sleep, perchance To Dream. The computer in Logan's Run was correct. Life after 30 isn't worth the trouble. Old age is a literal pain.

Yeah i have been noticing that Marvel's movies seem to be getting lighter maybe since the first Iron Man maybe?

Marvel gets lighter and makes loads of money with a series of characters.
DC gets darker and makes tons of money with...Batman and his sadistic villains.

Hmm....which option to choose on a weekend when world news is looking so grim? More grim with tormented vigilantes or some nice escapism?

It's like that Groundhog Day movie only with posts. Everything keeps repeating.

i'm not sure that it's a concern. they haven't played any of them completely straight. Captain America's movie was the most serious. and that's just because it took place during war time. Iron Man 3 seems a bit dire, as well. but i don't think Wright is pursuing this as a comedy. he's said a few times that it would have the same amount of humor in it as the first Iron Man film. if he was serious about choosing 'To Steal an Ant-Man' as the story model, it could be somewhat grim; involving a dying child and harvested organs.

anyways, i think they should use the film as a comeback for a fallen off actor. that seemed to work for Robert Downey jr. people were interested in seeing if RDj still had it. that helped Iron Man a bunch. i think it could do the same for a character like Ant-Man.

Thor Dark World, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Iron Man 3 have been marketed as anything but light

I'm guessing the direction he was talking about taking with the movie years ago.

i think Hank and Jan should be kept a little mysterious and appear as S.H.I.E.L.D lab geeks in the Avengers sequel; prior to the Ant-Man movie. the solo movie would still focus on them but would be the first time we actually see what they've been working on; behind S.H.I.E.L.D's back. Scott Lang, under duress, would break into their private lab for A.I.M; exposing their work. Fury would charge Pym with recovering his experiment and finding out what A.I.M is up to. Scott would never officially become Ant-Man during the film. it's made clear that he's a desperate ex-convict interested in saving his daughter's life and continuining with reformation. Jan gets to do a lot of the investigative work; the focus being on A.I.M's sudden spike in activity. Pym uses his tech to track Lang. they get into some epic size-changer fight. after everything is explained, the couple agree to aid Lang in saving his daughter and taking down whomever comprises the mad scientist cabal (i'm thinking it's a triumvirate of George Tarleton, Monica Rappaccini, and Elias Starr). it ends with Elias Starr presumed dead, Rappaccini escaped, and an incarcerated George Tarleton horribly disfigured by a bad batch of pym particles (setting up MODOK). Lang reunites with his on-the-mend daughter and thanks Hank & Jan for not turning him in. the two of them have to answer to SHIELD. Fury, predictably, accepts them into the fold on a probationary level. Hank, having his fill of running around at ant-size in this movie, reveals his plans for 'Giant-Man.' Jan's final augmentation can be saved for the 3rd Avengers movie.

p.s. they were initially recruited into SHIELD because of their advanced artificial intelligence work; designing the first working Life Model Decoys (foreshadowing Ultron).

Superman with humor is a bad parody. In the original superman movies , Lex was the guy with the humor. When they tried to be too goofy in Superman III with Richard Pryor , it failed badly.

Martin Freeman would be an interesting choice as well, at least to me.

as who? my gut reaction is that he's not good-looking enough to be Hank. but he's a great actor, so i'd consider him for any other role in the film (except Janet van dyne). he might mke an interesting Lang.
(kind of looks like him in the pic below)

of course, i only have Hot Fuzz and SotD to judge him by. i'd be perfectly happy with Cumberbatch as Pym and Freeman as Scott Lang. Simon Pegg seems a lock for Elias Starr, if they go that route.

Maybe it's a cliche but i think Nathan Fillion would do a good job because he is generally handsome but also funny of course he would have to portray intelligence too.

My fiancee and step-daughter would argue with you about Freeman's looks.
