That seems to be the general consensus around what I've read on online forums. I thought it was a great premise, let down by it being dragged without enough character / locale development.

I mean, Rotworld affected the entire planet right and yet all we see is a lot of wastelands and snapshots of Metropolis and Gotham City?

Nearly forgot to mention, superb cover to #20!

I'm sure some of that sentiment (a sentiment I share) stems from the experience of reading it on a monthly basis; we've been steeped in this one basic plot, with this one antagonist, for a year and a half.

So, reading it all at once will mitigate some of that frustration, I imagine.

That said, I honestly believe that this was a very lackluster conclusion. I'm shocked - SHOCKED - at the 4 star rating Swamp Thing got. The whole thing felt almost perfunctory, the characters laughably one dimensional (Anton Arcane, especially), the reveals predicated on shock rather than intelligent twists , the ultimate resolution completely out of nowhere and almost the definition of Deus Ex Machina.

There better be some EXTREME emotional satisfaction in the next issue, because Swamp Thing was legitimately bad, and Animal Man just average. None of it was heartfelt, none of it was satisfying.

Gorgeous cover. I was considering dropping Animal Man, as it seems to have lost it's heart as Rotworld drags on. Though if we are getting a referece to the movie from issue six, perhaps this means a return to that emotional core that drew me to the series to begin with. What made Animal Man great was the family dynamic and the struggles of a father trying to protect his family. Not punching zombies. So I hope this means we're getting back to character stuff. I may reconsider and keep AM around for a bit longer to see if things turn around.

IMO it could have been one issue shorter but that's it.

I find too much negativity in the forums aimed squarely at the length of the story, yet the quality has remained consistent - it has been quite good but not quite great for my tastes.

I'm going to give Animal Man another chance post-Rotworld. I still wish they replaced Steve Pugh with someone else, but John Paul Leon is a favorite of mine, so that helps to even things out a bit. I also have liked the Jae Lee covers, as they are striking and do a much better job at making this series look unique on the stands. I'm happy that the series looks to be moving back to more personal stories post-Rotworld, as that is REALLY needed.
