    &, if I get this right, the immortal (or at least as yet unkillable) Mudman is given a stick...ahem, a 'staff' as a weapon.... and so we jump ahead oh, even just ten years, and he's taken on a new name, John Smith (is that not the archetypal alias?), and a new super-i.d.: Jack Staff. Oh yeah. I know it.
