My guess is based on how the characters of their alphabet also appear in the dialog of future F.F. members in Fantastic Four#605, which I happened to flip through last night.
The critters speaking it appeared to be of different species: I thought it might be a lingua-franca of the future Terran Commonwealth alluded to (which I assumed to be a multi-species affair due to all the aliens present on Earth).
All very tenuous reasoning and entirely speculative, of course.
I give 5% odds there's something to the connection, 95% odds that Hickman and the letterer just thought to themselves (ech, I don't wanna make another new font..."
