Default Grant Morrison Stretches The "Action Comics" of Superman

Grant Morrison's run on "Action Comics" has been extended by an issue, and the writer tells CBR about how he'll cap off his reinvention of Superman with a more frightening take on the Fifth Dimension.

Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.

Thanks for that link. Glad to see he's doing another Seaguy volume at Vertigo - I've never read Seaguy, and I can never find the trades. Hopefully once this is done they'll re-release them all.

I think what remains is a Superman [who] is a bit more proactive and more masculine in the sense that he gets things done. He's got a little bit of a sense of humor, and he's tough again. You can knock him down, and he'll get up. I think the best thing that it's done ultimately is to get rid of that weird emo Superman that was around for a long time. He was constantly fighting against using his powers and was kind of angst-driven. There are so many great characters in comics that are angst-driven that we don't need Superman to be one was well. If anything great has come out of this for the future of how Superman is done, I think it's that the current Superman is proactive and Clark Kent's a little more feisty. And I think the character relationships have been busted up a bit too, and it's more fun because of that.
Ah the best thing ever! THIS is the Superman we need to keep. I hope the writers do not go back to the reactive wussy whiny Superman of last 20 years before the reboot.

Very excited to read his Action Comics finale, even more excited for Seaguy and the news of a multiverse guide book.

Morrison: All of the 52 [alternate Earths]. Because part of the Multiversity series incorporates a multiverse guide book with maps and stuff, and there's a story in there as well. So there's that kind of maps and blueprints aspect of it as well.

I'm very excited to read his finale to this Action story. Though I'm also pretty sad that it's the finale...

I do love that he wants to bring back the Superman with some swagger though. I hope that swagger sticks around. I'm curious to see what Diggle does with Action when Morrison is done.

GN: Awesome, pretty excited to hear that. That’s all I’ve got, is there something you wanted to add?

Morrison: God, there was something that I totally forgot now… [laughs] Oh yeah! You asked about reveals and stuff, but what there actually is is a big, new DC super team appearing. I forgot to tell this in any other interviews, so you’ve got the scoop! But you can look forward to the debut of a new DC Comics super team in Action Comics #18, and it ties into one of the characters that’s been in there before. So yeah, just stuff like that. There’s a lot of Easter eggs and surprises.

I always felt like the Superman after MOS was a very Marvelized Superman, he was essentially Peter Parker to me.
Grant's Superman always felt more fun, and more Super simply because he didn't act as if he was Bruce Banner longing to be free of the Hulk.

Makes sense. He did call them for help, after all.
This will probably end up being the Anti Superman Army versus a "Super Army" of Superman's allies, while the Big Man himself deals with that giant monster.

    Interviews, galore!

This guy is by far the best thing to happen to Superman in decades.

I totally agree. I could listen to Morrison talk about Superman all day. He's one of the few current writers who really gets it.

Ahh the more I read about it the more I say FFFkk YEss! Here's to hoping all these stays for good and hope writers will be able to emulate Superman's character as Morrison has developed so far.

I've always liked Superman, even since I was kid, but he was never my favorite. It was always the Flash when I was young
If that's the case don't give up on superhero monthlies until after you do a year or two of Flash.

Just imagine. Morrison on writing duties with Manapul on art and Buccellato on colours.
