I have no problem with Merrymaker's name, and the fact that it was obvious.

I won't deny that I'm reading a little into it, but seriously why mention that complete failure of your job if it isn't a little playful jab at the "competition". The only other conclusion I could reach was that it was a jab at Morrison for insinuating that Talia is the most powerful villain Batman fights, but I thought the backup did a good job of settling that. So I figured it was a Snyder reference.
Like I said the most important and most well done Batman title, and the inheritor to AC's reign as the best of DC's titles.

I didn't see it so much as a jab as just having the events reflected on in the most logical way.
As far as Ogilvy, I'm not really crazy about the character, but after the improvements I feel I've seen in the past couple issues, I'm looking forward to seeing where that goes.
I think we all know there's only one Penguin. I don't see a long bright happy future for Mr. Ogilvy.![]()
You know I have a bit of a problem with this story. Ignoring the general sloppiness of it, the whole time I was reading it I just kept thinking "Why now?". Merrymaker is a good idea for a villain but his debut story really should have been saved, I feel, for a time in which Joker was "dead" or during that year he was missing. Right now having a "fanatical Joker cult" just doesn't feel very...pertinent when the Joker's actually knocking around.
Far from sloppy it showed actual co-ordination with the other titles. It's the "World Building" stuff DC promised with the reboot. The entire arc was about how one crazy guy (who is in the other title right now) is so charismatic that his just being around effects the entire city of Gotham. It did a good job of showing that even the secondary police back up stuff Batman has to do is Joker related when he's around. Why would you expect a Joker copycat to be important? The story wasn't about Merrymaker, or even Joker, but Gotham and how it thrives in the chaos.
